Hurricane thread(aka kitchen appliances I can't afford thread)

Lots of trees down around Wawayanda and my area. Power went out at 1PM.
Now at 6PM no info on when we get power back.
My generator #1 ran for about 15 min and died, couldn't restart.
Went to generator #2 took a while, but it's running. problem is it's propane and I only have 1 small tank.

I'm in the purple outage

Worked across the lake from you. Its pretty fucked. Trees on a large number of homes and cars. Had many detours just to get out of there. I always cringe when I am asked to look at jobs on that side of the lake. Power went out early on me. Good to have battery tools for just about everything.

Last night about 7pm I realized I hadn’t started the generator in a few months. Dragged it out and it started in the first pull.

Great news right?!! Yeah well ...

Shut it down and smelled gas. Checked the carb and see it’s pouring down the side out the overflow. FML gotta be the float bowl.

drag it out front and drain the bowl shoot some carb cleaner in and wait a few min. Open the gas line back up and it’s not leaking. Starts on first pull. And it’s only 7:30.

Great news right ?! Yeah well.

5 minutes after it’s running smooth it shuts down. FML. Time to take the carb apart.

basically took me the better part of the next 1.5 hours to find the right tools and sockets but I was pretty sure this could be the issue.

Anyway this was all worth it because we been down since 1pm right after I finished my Zwift session. Had the generator staged in the garage and I was able to get the sump pump connected within 15 minutes.

and yes it started on the first pull.

I’ve got some extension cords run to various places which are rated for the generator so we have the fridges connected (yes I have multiple) and some small lights and lamps and my mega box fan running so it’s manageable for now. Got one if those fancy power strips for the electronics so able to keep stuff charged. Worked this afternoon with phone hotspot and laptop on battery.

Power out at my place since 10am. Slept in the camper because the fan works on battery power. 6 houses on our block out. Next door has power, teasing us. PSEG says by 730pm tonight. Heading to the ice house at 8m for some dry ice for the freezer.

I'm in Montville. No power or internet. Heard 85% of the town is out. Think this might take a couple of days

I live near 6MR/Rocky Hill. Had to take several detours, drive under/around a few downed trees. PSEG has some work to do. Have whole house generator on a propane tank that I haven't refilled since I bought the house. Hoping the 35% that was left this morning holds through this outage, how ever long it will be.

We ended up with many downed branches in the yard but no real damage other than our sunflowers (that were close to blooming) were totaled. Large branch fell on our car but somehow did nothing. We never lost power but the hum of generators in the neighborhood means someone close did. Of course the dog toy that’s stuck in a tree still hasn’t come down.

Thought I got away with just some downed branches in the yard. Just went to drop my truck off for some new tires. Manager said only one guy showed up for work today due to power outages. Totally messing with my plans for today.

Road ride time. Lets go check out the damage.

My parents' power came back on last night, so my dad brought me their generator. Still no Internet though, so I'm using my phone as a mobile hotspot for work. It's not bad, just have to make sure I don't accidentally download anything and waste data. I think I miss central air the most.
