Best deterrent is one that thieves and killers can spot from a mile away! A lot of the modern stuff seems to be so hidden. Why would you want to hide your cameras unless you were the police?!So...no running water but a CCTV from 1970?
You should leave out a couple of very large dog bowls and maybe a human femur on the property as well.Best deterrent is one that thieves and killers can spot from a mile away! A lot of the modern stuff seems to be so hidden. Why would you want to hide your cameras unless you were the police?!
I’m working on making my own police station…You should leave out a couple of very large dog bowls and maybe a human femur on the property as well.
I'm considering a moat. If I feel fancy maybe a lazy river.
My dogs (and I have a lot of them) wouldn't hurt a fly and would turn tail as soon as challenged but they LOVE to make noise when they see something or someone and they love to run toward the interesting thing(s) that come near or on our property barking their heads off. Of course they don't know what to do when said thing won't leave lol. Torn up dog toys all over the place. Great deterrent. However, financially I may be better off with no deterrent and periodic theft because these dogs cause more havoc, chaos, damage and property loss than thieves. In fact I feel like they ransack my house daily. You should leave out a couple of very large dog bowls and maybe a human femur on the property as well.
My wife would leave me for you if you did that. She has long talked about a moat with a lazy river in it.I'm considering a moat. If I feel fancy maybe a lazy river.
I'll stick to my machine gun nest, easier to clean after...I'm considering a moat. If I feel fancy maybe a lazy river.
Also @rick81721 's collection of chainmail suits his uncle used around 1320 in the old country, it may help dealing with both alligators and thieves...maybe @rick81721 can ship you some alligators to fill it up!
My mechanic told me Honda Accords are the biggest targets since their CCs aren't differentiated from those used in Cali and have the higher amounts of precious metalsOk so decided to use this thread instead of the frown thread to post and ask what would you do.
Town has recent issue of catalytic converter thefts going on. It’s clearly some organized group as they make there way thru the different neighborhoods the community forum has a bunch of posts like this. This car is exactly 2 blocks from my house and across the street from my friend who is a Morris county prison cop and next door to him is another cop.
I’ve got 3 cars parked outside, would only be 2 if I had my garage cleared out again to park my car but that’s another story.
The 2 Arlo cameras I have probably have a 5 sec delay and anyway when I am asleep I tend to mute my phone. Even if the dog who is trained to bark at noises and such outside could wake me up I doubt I could make it down To scare anyone away. Maybe I could prevent all 3 cars getting vandalized.
I hope they catch these assholes sooner the. Later parking all the cars only in the short driveway and not in the street is a complete PITA.
@Carson any suggestions I haven’t thought of ? Adding a massive floodlight doesn’t even seem like it would be a deterrent at all. And I can’t afford you to come here to patrol my vehicles either.

Yeah that was just one example. I also read about a few VWs getting hit too.My mechanic told me Honda Accords are the biggest targets since their CCs aren't differentiated from those used in Cali and have the higher amounts of precious metals

Nothing you can do that I'm aware. It is a huge problem and dealerships, with tons of lighting and security cameras, are getting hit as well. You'll just have nice video footage of the thefts; it really won't deter anyone. Cars or license plates on suspect vehicles are generall stolen or fraudulent (or parked elsewhere). Clean out the garage, park one car inside, park the others as close to the house as possible. Maybe leave a few house lights on inside. Best you can do.
Google "catalytic converter shield" and you'll see anti-theft solutions. Would that help? Maybe. Or maybe they destroy your car working around it instead. I dunno.
That’s pretty much what I figured but hearing it from you and your experience makes it much more authoritative.Nothing you can do that I'm aware. Yeah like anything else it’s more about deterrent then prevention. Just seems to me these crews are much more blatant and don’t Give AF if anyone even sees them doing it.Yes I wonder how these thefts are planned and if their plans change. If they rolled up on a car and saw it eould take more than 3 minutes would they just skip it. Depending how it's armored or booby trapped would it make them move on or not.
You have a dog? Got neighbors with dogs? Throw dogshit under your car in copious amounts. They wanna crawl around in that they can have what they wantThat’s pretty much what I figured but hearing it from you and your experience makes it much more authoritative.
While I do have a dog it would be logistically challenging to leave dog shit and remove it when the boys come and go to work. You have a dog? Got neighbors with dogs? Throw dogshit under your car in copious amounts. They wanna crawl around in that they can have what they want
