hmm interesting

We may need a 27.5+ thread. We could ditch the Watchung Wheelman thread, those guys are so lame when it comes to posting. pfft...roadies.

I would love to get a feel for the difference between a 29er and 27+.

I understand that one of the benefits is that many of the 29er components would be compatible with the 27+ but is it worth it for the 29er owner to invest in essentially an extra set of wheels and tires? I can see people who are looking to upgrade picking a 27+ bike up...

Could this spell the end of 29ers? I know personally, I still would rather have a fat bike for winter riding but that's also because I recently invested in a new 29er.

Very interesting....

If you have a fat bike frame, you can run a standard 29er wheelset, 27.5+ or full fat. The WTB tire is only a 2.8", so it's on the small side of what will soon be available in 27.5+. Even so, you probably need a wider rim (like 35mm or so) to take full advantage of it. WTB is coming out with a 45mm wide 27.5 rim called the Scraper: http://singletrackworld.com/2014/09/interbike-2014-new-rubber-and-wheel-size-at-wtb/

I'm holding out for something around 3.25" wide to try as a mid-fat option on my fatty. Vee tire has one, but I don't think you can buy them just yet, and ditto for compatible rims.

i had the opportunity to ride Jdogs Krampus for a week plus this past christmas and really liked the 29er+ but not enough to purchase one. I thought about even throwing rabbit hole and 3" tire on the front of the Misfit but knew that would screw up the geo. This 27.5+ front to back on the misfit might be the trick i was looking for.

If you do it, post up some pics. This might be a cool option to run this winter.

This makes more sense than 29+ which is just huge. Every time I ride one I feel like I'm on a Penny Farthing. 😀

I liked the idea of a Krampus but wanted front squish. This looks pretty cool instead. Why must the bike industry keep making shiny new things!?

I've always felt an FS bike with 27.5 rims and 3.0-3.2" tires would be the right configuration for an all-around MTB. You'd get roughly the same diameter wheel of a 29er or fattie, but a tire width that splits the difference between them for enough traction and flotation for most any situation, with less tire weight (not to mention a marginally stronger/lighter wheel than a standard 29er).
