Heat pumps. Who's using them?

If it's on record with the town you're screwed, if it isn't Fight Club is an option. Mostly depend on its age, older houses may have stuff underground that nobody knows about.
They don't have any records on when the tank went in in the 1960s. There was no requirements when I bought this house a year and a half ago. I just don't like having the tank in the ground and I'd like to put a small garden in that spot.

Is digging it out something you feel like doing on your own? That's a lot of scrap metal...

I live in the mountains, maybe I want to do redneck shit.

I've been throwing out a dilapidated building one garbage pail a week, can do that next.

Worthless scrap metal. Rusty steel?

When I installed the Roth, I got the permit and inspection of the old cut in half tank.
The issue here is what to do with the oil, and I don't want to scrap and perfectly good tank if I don't have to.
I would take the oil to my sister's down the street but trying to do that 5-55gl at a time doesn't seem like a viable option.

I reached out to @terrabike01 about this. He might know.

Bringing this one back.
For those with heat pumps, what do your electric bills looks like? Our house is a ranch around 2800 sq ft. We are fully electric with 2 hot water heaters. Our bill has been $700+....
Trying to determine if it's a system issue or if I should be looking to switch to propane or something.

Had to deal with this during our sale last year. Buyer attorney insisting on verification that tanks had been removed and no others existed! We built that house, lived in it for 25 years, and only a propane tank existed. Crazy.

Yea, ended up removing mine my self and giving it away. Pretty sure I took a picture and we did a tank sweep when we bought it. The hope is it'll be my kids probably when I'm dead ...

Did you just have to have someone sweep the property to verify there was no tank?

My house is 2,300sq ft, one hot water heater. Budget plan for last year was $300/month average. I got a new outside until in 2024. Inside unit is 20 years old.

Last few weeks was rough, when it gets below 15 I use the emergency heat otherwise the heatpump just runs a ton. The bill for midjanuary-mid february was $700, mid december-mid january was $500.

We're at the same, $700, for gas and electric last month. We have two heat pumps but probably barely kicked on as they are set to only work at above 40F. Though it really depends on the thermostat setting and where your comfort levels are at. My friend paid $1400 last month in a smaller house and always feels like a sauna. We had a heat loss analysis after we got the house 15+ years ago and the tech said the house was pretty tight with the exception of new door insulation.

Ok, thanks. Yeah, we don't have the aux hooked up atm, so when it was 0, we had space heaters and last month was $943.

For a propane comparison, January and February for me were $900/month, electric only $90. I have a big house, 4 furnace zones and hot water. We’re on the consumption decline so maybe one more fill or even wait until the Fall. I run about $220/month electric for full Summer AC.

Good to know, probably not worth me switching to propane. I do think there's something wrong with my system. Set the thermostat to 77 thermostat temp never says anything above 73 and the thermometer on the counter says 70.

I have four programmed smart t-stats. They easily dropped my utilities 25%.
