Have Lights List

Let's remember fight club this year, it is generally illegal/taboo to ride in the majority of NJ parks at night. That being said, no one would want to incriminate themselves, especially on this site where various land use groups look for feed in their pursuits against the bicycle.

I'll be quite now.

Dusk ...

For anyone who regularly rides at night -- do you ever feel like you're sketchier in low light than in actual darkness? Last night, I was doing a night ride but started before nightfall and once the sun started to go down, the fact that it was overcast made it seem like it was getting darker than it usually is at the time (about 6:30.) So I turned my lights on but I later wished I hadn't. I've noticed this before a bunch of times, but it I felt really sketchy for that brief period of dusk. I felt like I'd probably be better off without lights even though I had trouble seeing more than a few feet in front of me. I don't know if it's the shadows the light creates or what, but I felt really off for a while. I hit the rock garden north of Bell's Mill Road at Wiss and just felt completely sketchy on stuff I usually have no problem riding. Anyone else ever notice this kind of thing? 😕
It's why predators like mountain lions hunt at dusk because their preys eyes are trying to adjust and less likely to see them.

I picked-up two of the $19 amazon lights, and put a diffuser lens in one. Running both to test them and the combination is really nice, but more light than I need. The diffused beam is a very nice spread, kinda like an automotive fog light. The standard pattern is a spot and way too focused. They are exact copies of my Magic shine from ~7 years ago, same battery connections, and the whole light set cost less than a replacement battery too. I think a Magic Shine on the Helmet and diffused light on the bars would be perfect, or a ride with both sons and we each get a light on the bars...

Lots of private land here to ride on...

Did my first ride tonighy. Two niterider lumina 750s. One on helmet n one on bars. Next tide will be with just helmet light. Both on was yoo bright for me on lowest setting. Pattern was perfect for just a hesdlamp.

Just picked up a NiteRider Lumina 550 for the bars and Minewt 770 enduro for the helmet. Anyone interested in weekday night rides at Ramapo/Ringwood please contact me!

Running 2 NiteRider Lumina 750's on the handlebars (wide spread) and a 3rd Lumina 750 on my helmet. I run them all at low setting and I get plenty of light for hours. They also make great flashlights.

Was out last night in the Morristown area and noticed more people than ever out there at night. It was great to see so many out there!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I hear it is legal to night ride at Dickerson Mine.

JORBA has permission to run night rides on the property and as of right now, we are organizing rides every Wednesday at 6pm.

Did my first night ride last night. Forgot how much fun it is. even though I ride these trails all the time you still get a little disoriented on where you are not being able to see your surroundings. Solo deep in the woods also has that fear factor effect on me. mind games
