So yea. The bed outlet has enough juice to power the blender. Soooo, we can make fresh margaritas as we go throughout the day. Now... who is up for a margarita and mountain bike meet :getsome:

ANY time you want to ride, just let me know :) nice Plan B sticker too...

How to keep your bottles in drinkable form

This is really my biggest problem this time of year. I ended up on the road bike today and it was like 10 degrees or something and it's not really as bad as I seem to remember. But the bottles freezing kinda sucks.

Most times when it the temp is low I like to place my bottles under the front of my jacket in the "foopa" area under the bib tights. The tight elastic on the bottom of the jacket keeps the bottles from migrating downward or falling to the asphalt. Having them closer to my skin and further from the cold seems to do the trick.

When on on the trail I sport a Hydrapak under the jacket. I bet this would work on the road too.

Stay warm!!:)

Even with salt water the spout / nipple freezing is the biggest problem. You can win the camelback lottery where the "lips" on the nozzle freeze open, so on Sunday I could still get alittle bit out of my bottles after 2 hours at 15*.

For some reason, I can't for the life of me remember how I've dealt with this all these years. I know at some point I had those silly Polar bottles. Pretty sure I had a bottle tucked into a short-sleeve jersey under my jacket sorta like Timmy said, but in the back. They say the mind is the first thing to go :hmmm:

-Jim.

Yesterday I wore a windbreaker over my jacket. That forms a sort of oven, and the bottle in my jacket pocket was actually warm. The one on the bike was nearly solid, and never thawed out.

I need to get 2 storage bottles for my crap and put them on the bike, then ride with 3 bottles of water in the oven.

Having my bike food not in my pockets makes for some very hard bike food. The gels turn into chomps, which is really hard to squeeze out. My waffle was like a Health bar, no joke.

Tuesday.

Re-mutha-funky-covery. When I drove the boys into school most the roads were ice-covered. Same deal up near the shop. Good day to not ride :D

Today we'll do shop stuff because I have no riding stories.

Hey Brian!!

One of our customers sold this to another one of our customers so I still get to be taunted on how not-baller my Pugsley is. The new guy put on skinnier tires and a few odds/ends to lighten it up a tad. Maybe next year I'll step up my fat bike game?

Remember the little tiny Seven? It came in for it's first check over and to have the cranks finished. The recap. We custom machined a set of 180mm cranks down to 152.5. The 152.5 was her theoretical crank arm length, which you can't buy. Most chick bikes would just run 165s and then slack the seat tube out...That's not how we roll. Anyways, E-Bear cut these down, shaped them, and painted the end to match.

It looks pretty factory. Or at least damn close.

I took some pics to do a tech tip thing but for some reason my internet is broken. I think my router pooped out. I fixed it yesterday, this morning, not so much. I have a HotSpot on my phone so I can always have the interwebs, my wife just doesn't have it until I get home, which is when she goes to the gym so, I guess we have to get that fixed.

I'll post it later if it's slow...

Or....go buy one of these...

Busy in January?

Weird I know, but we're still bumping along. A slew of super trick stuff has come through the shop this week.

Another DI2 Seven. This guy was adamant about running the battery on the downtube, which is super ugly. But at least let's all your friends know you just spent a shit ton of coin on upgrades :D

Steel is real. And apparently making a comeback!! 3 guys brought in some absolutely gorgeous handmade lugged frames. Each also had a story about being sick of their "Enter brand name here" Carbon fiber bike creaking, and/or not shifting and/or having to rebuild the BB every 1,000 miles, etc, etc, etc...I hope the market speaks up a bit more and some of these standards get standardized.

Rich Adams. Triple-butted Columbus tubing, gorgeous army green, Henry James lugs and dropouts...The brake bridge is my favorite part of the bike...

Even nicer was this Jamie Swan. Lug work on this thing are out of this world!! Painted by Tom Kellogg at Spectrum so paint is flawless...

This one had a sick fender mount. He curved it to match the profile of the fender. Details son.

Compared to those 2 this Ira Ryan looks common, but it's no slouch either...Traditional Mercxx orange.

Of course, all 3 of them had Campy. BLAH!! That's the only bad thing all these cool custom steel enthusiasts have in common. Campy. SHITE!!

I rode my bike. It wasn't exciting.

-Jim.

Are those stainless king headsets?

Why no campy love (serious question)? The Rwandans are now riding Merckx with campy, which I actually think is pretty cool.

I do see a steel road bike in my future and will likely do my first jump into campy. Of course that sadly means I need to build another set of wheels.

That's the spirit. Depends on what kind of hubs you have. DT 240s (and OEM variants) are stupid simple to convert to campy-no tool required, no redish required freehub swap. But something tells me you are a Chris King man in which case you will have an excuse to build more wheels.
