Sweet!! You'll get hooked!!

Friday...

Day off the bike. Spent the day hydrating and watching my food intake. After I
got home from work I rubbed my legs down with Energy Oil and stretched a bit and now I have my legs up watching the Tour. I'm starting to feel a little more confident about Sunday but I'll wait until my openers tomorrow to see how the legs are. I have a feeling it's gonna be VERY HARD race!!

More info on this "energy oil" please. I use southern middle eastern king cobra venom extract but it burns a little.

The site is in flash so I can't post a link directly to this stuff. They make a bunch of cool stuff though and everything I've tried works:hmmm:

Saturday...

Easy commute to/from work with a few 1-minute opening efforts just over FTP.

Entire workout (166 watts):
Duration: 1:25:08
Work: 850 kJ
TSS: 72.3 (intensity factor 0.714)
Norm Power: 207
Distance: 22.035 mi
Min Max Avg
Power: 0 693 166 watts
Heart Rate: 75 163 125 bpm
Cadence: 29 159 78 rpm
Speed: 0 45.8 15.5 mph

Opener effort. This was going up Washington Rock. These are too short to affect your HR. The object is to get a little work into the legs so it doesn't shock your system when you leave the start line...

Duration: 1:00
Work: 20 kJ
TSS: 2.3 (intensity factor 1.181)
Distance: 991 ft
Min Max Avg
Power: 265 401 336 watts
Heart Rate: 135 159 148 bpm
Cadence: 56 90 64 rpm
Speed: 10.1 14.5 11.1 mph

On a side note, first the first time in a long time I'm actually a little nervous about a race. In the past I've never had the fitness to be competitive so with that came no pressure to perform. I personally feel I had a better chance to win Lewis Morris and I didn't so my self-confidence isn't as high as it could be. Either way I'll have fun and with a little luck who knows what will happen😉

Sunday...

Bulldog Rump. So I was jittery about today. I rode a little more aggressive than I normally would and crashed pretty hard not too far into lap#2. I went from 3rd wheel to no man's land in a few minutes time. When I crashed I was pretty sure I broke my jaw, not the case it turns out, I did manage to knock one of my back teeth loose and bruised my chin pretty good. Also put a nice knot in my kneecap, broke my shifter, and bent my derailleur. I felt kinda dazed for a few and it took me a bit to start getting my groove back. But I started to work my way through both the pack and the pain and the mechanicals to eventually finish 6th with a quasi single-speed. As long as I can move and my bike is sorta rideable, you won't see me DNF!! So I have an endurance ride planned for monday which I may skip, and then my wife is away for the week and I'll be off the bike until Sunday I think.

Entire workout (161 bpm):
Duration: 2:13:01 (2:15:24)
Distance: 27.783 mi
Min Max Avg
Heart Rate: 112 178 161 bpm
Speed: 2.5 27.9 12.4 mph

First lap!! So the only bad feelings from today is that my legs felt great, I threw this down for lap#1 and felt very comfortable. I'm pretty sure I could've maintained this pace for the full run...Oh welly, now I have even more motivation to murder the DH40:getsome:

Duration: 30:02 (30:14)
Distance: 6.839 mi
Min Max Avg
Heart Rate: 159 178 171 bpm
Speed: 2.8 27.9 13.5 mph

Forgot to mention this. Yesterday I noticed quite a bit of bob going on in your front fork when you were riding through the field. It seems like you have it setup way, way soft. You appeared to be dropping power left and right in the field section(s).

When I pointed it out to Steve and Chucky, they both agreed.

Not surprised...

As strange as it may seem, I don't ever check stuff like that, I probably have 30 psi in it😀

Monday...

Very light recovery ride with the Hermutgers guys...

Entire workout (133 watts):
Duration: 2:03:29
Work: 988 kJ
TSS: 70.1 (intensity factor 0.583)
Norm Power: 169
Distance: 32.654 mi
Min Max Avg
Power: 0 674 133 watts
Heart Rate: 67 150 111 bpm
Cadence: 29 244 81 rpm
Speed: 2.3 27.4 16.1 mph

Week off...

Just when you thought it would never happen, week off!! NO BIKE!! Woohoo? Well a few things are going on here, A) My wife is away so I'm on daddy-duty all week, I'll still race Eric around the courtyard though!! B) Remnants from crashing...I'm still sore and beat up so time off is actually a really good thing. C) Recovery. Time to heal up, let the legs rest, catch up on sleep, and mentally re-focus...From here on out the season will be hard: 2 endurance events, 3 more MTB races, and then straight into a full cross season!!

I'll be back on the bike Sunday to start a mini-base building block that should last 2 weeks, focus will be on HUGE volume, I'm going to attempt some back-to-back centuries, then it will be a block with some good intensity and then a taper into the DH40 & 24HOA. Recovery week after that and then we'll return to our regularly scheduled programming:popcorn:

-Jim.

Im not about to compare our fitness levels, but when i do take a 5-6 day break, it does wonders for me. Especially after a few weeks of heavy riding. I come back and feel like I could climb for hours.

This time off may be a blessing.

Sunday...

Base camp day#1...Easy, long endurance pace ride...Joe from the shop joined me for 50 or 60 miles of this so I had a chance to sit-in for a bit😀

This was one of my fairly quasi standard loops, which of course included a trip around Round Valley and then some stuff around Norm's hood.

Entire workout (176 watts):
Duration: 6:36:39
Work: 4189 kJ
TSS: 357.4 (intensity factor 0.735)
Norm Power: 213
Distance: 117.04 mi
Min Max Avg
Power: 0 691 176 watts
Heart Rate: 0 177 134 bpm
Cadence: 29 244 82 rpm
Speed: 0 42 17.7 mph
