Going Long and Hard.

I guess this is why I did not hear back from you, you were too busy hopping turtles and storm chasing.

Sorry about that, I have a bunch of catching up to do...The answer is: You need to install a 20mm travel spacer to drop it😀

What campground did you stay at?

We stayed at Seashore Campground. It was a lot nicer than I thought. Growing up we went camping nearly every weekend so it felt only natural to camp. Everyone we talked to was staying at some hotel in Wildwood.

How did the Romin saddle hold up??

I'm more impressed with that saddle every time I ride it!! The fact that it's bolted to steel Seven I'm sure helps a bit as well, that bike is so damn comfy:lock:

Wanted to go over a few things that helped out a ton and things I've learned. First, here's the bike setup...

I put on my Easton Circuit wheels with Rubino Pros. I got 3 flats. 2 in the rear, 1 in the front. If I do something with a rack on the back again, I'd probably run the same thorn-proof tubes I do during the winter months.

Watermelon Gu Chomps are the greatest thing that have ever been invented. I had one pack almost every hour, I say almost because I ran out. We ate almost 2 boxes of them in 2 days. Like crack!!

Don't camp the first night unless you carry your gear with you and are arriving early enough to set it up. Next time I'll just book a hotel right off the bat.

Speaking of camping. Freddy had a sick idea of making Smores using Honey Stinger waffels!! I didn't have any to try it, but I can only imagine how awesome that would be!!

Pack rain gear. I didn't. Luckily it was warm enough to not matter.

Custom molded Shimano shoes FTW!!

And NJ really is pretty awesome, everyone should get out there and explore a little. On your next ride go down a road you've never been😀

Awesome dude, thats an amazing journey! I totally messed up and thought you were doing the ride up on saturday. I was hoping to catch up with you guys in rockaway and ride though the arsenal and green pond with you guys. Oh well, next year 😉 Great work man!

Joe, I plan on trying to work that area into more of my rides. The roads up there are totally awesome you lucky son of a bitch!!

Since you dont mind riding on Roubaix type roads, you should take lake denmark to greenpond like you did, but then hang a right onto upper hibernia and head through split rock....like a mile or so of unpaved roads, but not bad. I ride my tarmac on them all the time. But that will drop you into rockaway valley and the fayson loop which is nice. Would be a nice loop from your hood for sure.

I love the roads on the weekends...when I ride though (5pm on weeknights) traffic can get sucky, but you dont mind traffic, so it wouldnt be a big deal.

utah, have you ridden snake hill road? that's a roubaix.

I have, but I usually dont. I try not to ride greenpond during rush hour if I can avoid it since people are normally heading to rt23 at 60+ mph. So usually the only part of it that I will ride is the section from lake denmark road to upper hibernia. Snake hill dumps you out at the bottom of the big hill and usually im not going in that direction. But what I should do sometime is go backwards past bills, then up it.

The part of green pond I will almost never ride is the section from RT80 until meridian where you split off to go to Bill's house. HATE riding there.

Duh!

Thanks for spending the time to recap. It made me smile a lot. And you were like 2 miles from my place (when you passed the big fences with the old rockets and bombs). In fact I rode that some stretch of road on Friday evening.

312 miles in 2 days, wow.

that stretch of road is death. i've ridden it, but only EARLY am on the weekends but usually i hit morris ave and swing around that way, out into mt. lakes, boonton and montville.

Seashore Campsites is a great campground. You kids picked a winner there. That's the place we always stayed at. I need to do an epic ride kinda along those lines.
Again, great stuff. I'm gonna go eat some vegetables in your honor. 😀

My wife wants to go back down there sometime soon(ish). Gives me an idea for another long weekend😀

Today.

Well, except for riding the boys to school, no other time on the bike. My legs actually feel pretty good surprisingly. Spent some of the day goofing around with the Bunny. I ended up killing the battery trying to get it to start. So, it's not the timing. When I took the head off I did something to one of the vacuum hoses in the fuel line (I think). It may be time to call it quits and just drop the car off to have Bill look at it, I seem to be missing something:hmmm:

Thinking ahead to a family trip out to Hershey Park during the July 4th weekend. We used to go out there at least once a month before we had kids. Seems we haven't been since. I'm trying to work out a nice long one day ride. Straight to Hershey is only 135 miles so I'm trying to work out a little detour through Amish Country to get it over the 150 mark. Plus I want Birch Beer and handmade pretzels!! The only thing that sorta, barely, worries me, is holiday traffic. I'd be heading south in the am so that may present a little issue with shore types albeit I will be going west. Maybe? It's another good open weekend with no races and I wouldn't be riding a second day at all. Here's my first draft...

I've got nothing else.
