Let's be real here. Just because someone is bullied and plays FPS games doesn't mean they will ever think about carrying out a mass shooting. In fact, I have thicker skin thanks to some ten years of playing Call of Duty.

I still hold firm on the shame on the parents for buying their kid an ebike train. So many thousands of dollars for a bike as opposed to sub- $500, and one that will soon be outgrown by the kid. If my kid was begging for an ebike, I sure as heck wouldn't give them one. That's called good parenting, as you deal with what you have.
I see kids of all ages on cheap electric bikes and scooters all over town. The electric-horse is already out of the barn, no going back. My kids have old fashioned pedal bikes but I would get them some kind of electric assisted toy if they wanted one and it was cheap enough. Out of curiosity how many kids do you have?

Why in the world would you get your kid an ebike? They’re kids, let them at least learn how to pedal and get a little exercise.

At least they have to pedal with an e-bike. Last place I lived, the kids would fly around on electric scooters all over the place. I wouldn't want my kids going faster then they could pedal themselves, seems dangerous, but at least they're outdoors and not on screens. Can't complain about that.

Finally. An E-bike motor/gearbox combo that looks reasonably close to production. I still don't consider it quite ready as the chain tensioner has a bit too much of a rear derailleur appearance and limitations (although the Simplon version looks a lot better). But maybe in another generation or two, this has really promise to me.

Not sure why that big of a tensioner is even needed. You only need enough to apply tension that 1 full link creates. Oh wait, full suspension. Makes sense now.

Because the alternative is not going outside or exercising at all? This doesn't seem that hard.
Really? So as a parent, the only way to get your kid outside is to bribe them with an ebike? If this is the case, you're (not directed at you specifically) doing something wrong. Kids follow the example that has been set for them.

I think something that would keep kids away from ebikes is that they LOVE doing tricks more than anything. I see kids trying to do whips with their bike barely off the ground.
People can do tricks on ebikes but nothing near what they can do with an analog bike.

Some do, some don't. I think it's wishful/hopeful thinking that they do. I'm a lifelong skier and cyclist. While my son came with me as he was growing up, he really has no interest in either at 23 years old. BTW, my parents never stepped on a pair of skis and I've been hooked since I was 11.

Same as well. Neither of my parents were/are particularly active or did any outdoor activities. Similar with my car hobby. My father has the technical aptitude of a turnip and my mother isn't much better.

Bash guard FTW. No idea what they were thinking making a 180mm travel Kenevo with a chunk of plastic under the bb.
I just got one of these...My Levo took a rock to the charge port door and broke both hinges off. Specialized replaced under warranty but I hope this helps. Surprised how light the guard is. Shop also confirmed no issue with future warranty adding this part.

I was told by Specialized that the broken hinges aren't technically a warranty item but they have been replacing them for free for now. The original is a poor design that will eventually fail on all the bikes from normal use, but that doesn't stop them from claiming it is a wear item. Mine has never had an impact, but at about 1900 miles it just couldn't bend anymore and fell off.

When I was a kid I had a motorcycle and a 3-wheeler. This was totally acceptable as a thing to do outside. My dad also had a snowmobile but I used it like 3 times ever.

But today an eBike is unacceptable?

Send a kid bowling or fishing - acceptable.
eBike - not

We used to get tubes from the truck stop and float down the river. Acceptable
eBike - not

JFC - get off the high horses.

Note: nobody in this house owns an eBike, nor a motorcycle, nor a fishing pole.

Your parent's gave you a 3-wheeler as a kid.
Was it awkward when you were old enough to understand that they were trying to kill you?

It was actually my dad. You probably recall that he lived on the backside of RV.

We once took the motorcycle and 3-wheeler up & over RV. I have no idea, but I assume that it was up the brutal saddle climb that nobody can make. I was really young and as I got close, I was afraid of flipping the 3-wheeler backwards so I stopped and my dad had to get me out of that jam.

Kids off old railroad are up there all the time. Property backs up to the ridge trail and back gate to the north dam.

Mom said they ride mtb too, it was just a moto type of day.

Lets be real here, if you're a couch potato or serial gamer (kid or adult), an ebike isn't the "a ha" thing that is getting you outside to exercise. This is BS. Kids are using ebikes as transportation, not exercise or recreation, and transportation used to be a bike you pedaled or a scooter you pushed. We used ride dirtbikes and 3 wheelers for fun, bikes (and later mopeds) for transportation, but we were outside from dawn till dusk. How many kids are still outside from dawn till dusk?

How are you equating bowling, fishing, and floating to an ebike? Bowling requires skill, some physical activity, and is a face to face interactive activity. Fishing gets you outside and teaches you to love the outdoors, so does floating down a river. An ebike is the easiest way to get from point A to point B, other than your parents giving you a ride.
