Sounds like neither of you 2 listened to the podcast. DM obviously has a choice to ride whatever top model he wants, he describes exactly what you expected and why. I felt in no way he was selling a product he wanted you to buy. I found the conversation to be honest and real.

I am of Scottish descent so I inherently believe him. Part of the marketing genesis behind that one…just seems (is) like some common guy. But your fooling yourself to think he you can get an honest review of someone that supports him to do bikes for a living.

My comment was about celebrity endorsements in general. How can an actor convince me to buy auto insurance? How can an athlete tell me which bathroom cleaner is best?

You must have missed the memo, it's not about how competent you are on the product you advertise but how many people are potentially listening to you. Same goes for politics and nowadays science...

you are not the target audience. you probably don't watch 'real housewives'

I guess I missed the memo. When I'm deciding on what car to buy I don't think about what some baseball player I just saw on TV is selling. I tend to do my own research. I guess I'm the worst demographic because I ask questions and can be a real pain in the ass at times. I seriously believe the salesman who sold me my last car quit after the sale. I think I left the F&I manager with some scars too.

@mattybfat whenever the bike industry calls:

Here's a couple of videos of the Orbea Rise from Jeff Gulevich. His high praises for the Rise might be bias, as he is a rider for Orbea. Just IMO, the Rise is the only emtb that I can tolerate the looks.

I saw those videos, and this one too.

It doesn't matter what sport or topic. Things are promoted as an advantage all the time some BS and some legit great. Usually it takes someone with existing skill to recognize the advantage and take that product and actually utilize it to what is advertised or beyond. It doesn't hurt to see marketing show you what is possible, it only hurts when you make yourself a sucker and buy what you won't use or don't need.

What is the advantage of an ebike?

Not always. Let’s see you fly a weather balloon to the moon, tough guy.
If it means the difference between a person enjoying a ride in the woods and that same person not enjoying a ride in the woods, then eMTBs are great. And despite their growing popularity I suspect when the dust settles that's who will ultimately be riding these things long-term. People that would otherwise not be riding. Or, people that bought an eMTB and decided they really like having an electric motor supplement their own power and can't go back. And honestly, that's fine. Whatever gets you out into the woods and away from your computer, phone, kids, job, daily stresses, whatever.

But as an enthusiast, the appeal of incorporating an electric motor into my mountain bike remains completely lost on me.

Fail for not being a palindrome.
Ekebike ftw
Speaking of palindrome did I mention I am going to see Dopapod tonight 😁

I will repeat again only what I've heard/read over and over, if you love mountain biking and you think it's fun then ebiking takes it up a notch and makes it funnier. I don't yet have that first hand experience but will report back when I do.

Ekebike ftw

Ah, not a palindrome. Go get more coffee my friend.

@sundaydoug smash both your knees with hammers for a few years and get back to me regarding it being lost on you. To be transparent, I do not own an eBike nor do I plan to buy one this year (or next). But as a guy who has been limping around the house since Saturday because I hurt myself yet again, I see them on the horizon at some point. I suspect they will be what keeps me riding a bike until the day I keel over.
