Also the motor cuts out after it’s max wattage and the rider is left to now put out well over that to go faster. I have dozens and dozens and dozens of e-bike Commutes where I bottomed out the motor every time. It’s not 500+whatever you put out. That’s why I sold all of my e-bikes, it doesn’t help where I actually need it to.
The Brose on my Kenevo is speed limited to 20 mph, it is not watts limited. I love climbing stupid hills on my 55lb bike and it has never cut power peddling my 220lb butt up crazy steep stuff. I would ask what speed you were going when your motor “ bottomed out”. Class one bikes cut power at 20 mph and class three bikes are speed limited to 28 mph(most commuter bikes are class 3).

I understand how they work, I spent a year becoming a Master Tech. You're just not putting out the power to bottom it out. We've had multiple returns of SL bikes in exchange for full power for this exact reason.

Only thing worse than a Crazy Cat Lady is a Crazy Cat Guy. Not a NJ problem as we don't have any freaken bike paths.

Maybe if we require registration of ebikes things will magically get better.
Yes, you could easily pick that guy apart, that being said, the point is a legit talking point.

Yardley had added ebikes to rent for a really low cost, free?, to ride on the canal. I saw a few cases of really under prepared people (flip flops, helmet strapped to the bike, etc.), clearly not people who ride often. While this may be the case often with families and other poeple, the difference is these ebike people can go 25mph. Seems like they did away with the program after a year.

For discussion:

I can understand his frustration and I think it is justified. However, I think his anger is a bit misplaced in that he should be pissed at the rider, not the bike. You can have an idiot analog fat bike rider do the exact same thing and have the same result. He even said it himself, the "idiots riding them". Idiots could be riding analog bikes too. He said on multiple occasions that he's seen lots and lots of ebikes out there on the trails, maybe half of the bikes he sees. In that case if ebikes were the problem then there would be a lot more crashes and he would likely be a victim of one way sooner. I do agree that many of them are inexperienced riders and have no clue of bike courtesy and etiquette so in that respect the answer is education, not banning.

what this is is kevin found someone on youtube he can agree with.
basically this dude is expressing the same exact thing kevin has from the beginning
so you'll have same haters chime in with same conversation
every person i have ridden with or encountered on my trails on class 1 ebikes are the same people who rode mtbs
does it mean something different in say allaire or six mile idk i dont ride there, but maybe
i'm pretty sure on this site people dont really care either way
anyways its kevins will to stir a pot thats become redundant just like myself who tell you your missing out

A couple of good lawsuits will solve your town's problem.

People can't drive. People can't ride a bike. On the bright side, most of these ebikes have barely functioning brakes and their owners are too "frugal" to get them replaced.

I'm not sure what the answer really is. It is getting kinda nuts. I was going up a hill at Allaire and 2 Surrons descending passed the opposite direction. One on either side of me. These kids wouldn't have been in the woods at all if they didn't have these. I don't have the answer. Maybe put them back on their wheely bikes so they can go back to the streets and play chicken with the cars?

Here is the most common scenario I encounter daily: Humans making assumptions about things that they have no first hand experience with.

Unless you have done an multi-hour ride on a pedal assist bike in the woods, then you can't imagine exactly what that experience might be like. No matter what one might assume that it is, it is in fact something different. Nothing a person can read or hear will replace first hand experience.

This also goes for Group ebike rides vs, solo. My experience has been that a group e-bike ride can be just as hard in every way as a group ride on a traditional (analog) bike. On a recent group ride, the group split up as many on the ride had never ridden an ebike with much vigor.

I am more than happy to arrange a demo ride for anyone ebike curious.

No one has anything against Class1 MTBs.

That has not been my experience so far. 😉

You were good up to the stirring the pot, as noted, for discussion purposes. I don't search for anti-e bike videos, but this one came up on my youtube feed. If you never try and understand the other side, you can never understand the issue, or potential of one. And yes, there will be a rise in incidents at 6 mile and allaire, solely due to the sheer number of people that go there. We have seen people on analog bikes do all sorts of stupid stuff and that will be aggravated by the increased speed an ebike gives them. Will it be an issue per se, who knows To that point, anytime anyone brings up any counterpoint to you, it becomes, well they can't actually go 20mph, they can't actually climb faster, they go slower on the downhills, etc... so on and so forth.
