Don't Call it a Comeback

Lots of stuff happened today, but now I must sleep.

Nice...Trail dog baby...Dog or Bitch?

It's a boy. And right now it's 2am my turn on duty because he's not sleeping, and wants to pee and poop like every 45 minutes. I guess at least I can catchup on the photos and junk. But this is like having a baby. Otherwise he wakes up the house with the squeeling.

Catching up on stuff now

Thursday

I get the call that my new frame is in. It's nice. Ask Norm to pick it up from High Gear, since he lives right there. Thanks man.

Talk about branding. Will see how it looks assembled

Nagging thought in back of mind. My JBwelded old frame has survived Ringwood race, local stuff, and this Blue Marsh trip below. I'm thinking this thing will last years. I still like new bling. I guess I'll either make another Superfly over time, or sell it to someone.

Friday

6pm. Ride at 6mr with Brandon, Pearl, Frank the Wookie, and Manny part of the way. I figured it's unlikely I will ride with Brandon in the next several weeks before he bails.

10:15pm-12:15AM. 2 hours of getting worked over in friday night ice-hockey, which means I got home at 1:30am, and sleep at 2:30am, maybe closer to 3am.

Saturday
5:45am. Wake up to alarm, see Norm's text "sleep is overrated". Somehow manage to open my eyes and type back "F-off".

6:30am-8:07am. Drive to Reading, PA, where Blue Marsh is, for a ride with Norm, Bill (graveyarddude), and Woody. It's not that far if you go 90mph. I really shouldn't do that though.

8:30am-. We ride 30 miles in 3 hours, and climb 4000 feet. Bill and Norm are pushing the pace hard, Woody and I keep each other company usually a bit back. Even though my nutrition and hydration are perfect, my legs are fried midway through, after that my heartrate won't go above 150, and averages 141 for the ride. My typical race average is 165 or so.

I'd like to try this place fresh. It's a hell of a lot of fun. It's a mix between RV and LM, but much longer, more varied, and more funner. We decided we'd go back when it's dry, in 6 mos or something.

But to say Norm is just starting to regain mojo is an understatement.

This is particularly funny. Something about some monkeys washing stuff in some river rings true here. I had vid, lost it. Norm does a great impression.

1pm to 3:00pm - drive back home. Stop by rest stop, and wolf down double whopper. I haven't done that in a year.

3:30pm - wash bike, bring frame and old Superfly to Halters for assembly. There is mud in my eyes still, and I feel like laying down anywhere.

4:30pm - PUPPY arrives with wife and kids. Much excitement. Enzo is the name. He is unbelievably cute. See above.

5pm - At home, we order chinese. I can't stop eating. I eat a lot. And then eat some more.

9pm - Zzzzzzzzzzz.

Sunday

7am. Wake, take kids to hockey by 9am. Daniel is 9-10, Nick is 10:15-11:15. I'm one of the coaches, so it requires me to actually work.

1:30pm, we drive out to picnic. Story HERE, this was a blast. Great seeing folks. Met ElZoller, hugged Mare and Walter, avoided serious injury to kids.

7pm. Home, and straight to another ice-hockey game. Goalie calls 10 mins before the game, says he can't make it. DB. Scramble for a replacement. Only 3 on bench. Win the game 4-3, with the first 3 goals against our team on empty net before replacement goalie shows. I skate hard and manage only an assist.

10:30pm. Home, eat big tomato and left over chinese.

Now managing this puppy business every 45 mins. He's been quiet for like an hour already, maybe I'll try to sleep

Nice recap man. I vividly remember the middle of the night thing with Julia. I shudder. Given the circumstances that's an even more impressive summary you threw together above. Maybe sleep isn't overrated.

It's good to have pictures of it all. Next time I'm bringing a 5 pound sack of potatoes.

I'm pretty sure that Coast Guard guy was contemplating a citizen's arrest in the parking lot.

Even with all the issues we had Friday what an awesome ride. Really enjoyed riding with you. The boys seemed to have a blast yesterday as well.

Great recaps and good seeing you yesterday. After reading this I realized that I should have asked for my cracked Orbea back as I am betting it was repairable as it was not broken all the way through. Think I will give a call today and see if I can get my hands on that.
Your new frame is pretty btw.

Enzo is now up to sleeping through to 6am, which is perfect for me, less so for the mrs.

That coast guard didn't really have a sense of humor.

Raystown on deck?

Boxer Pups rock.....Great dog if you have kids.
My Boxer just turned 13 3 days ago and he still plays like a pup.

Definitely, this is our second boxer. Our first boxer, Luca, died in his sleep in August 🙁, he was 10. Great dog.

It was a good ride. Hopefully you got those brakes handled 🙂

Typically if its a replacement under either crash or warranty, they are *supposed* to destroy the old frame or send it back in. Whether that actually happens or not is another story ...

So we got the bike together with the new frame. THis is a Large, whereas my old frame was a Medium. My SS is a Large, also a G2 frame.

Took it out for the first time at 6mile last night. It felt pretty good, maybe not totally as flickable as the old, but its simply a matter of getting used to. I feel better on it. It is stiffer, that is for sure. The old frame felt almost too flexy.

The frame looks a lot better all built up, I think the components matching the graphics package helps. Cute pup...train him to be a trail dog!

One of the reasons I like my superfly is that it was pretty flexy in the rear (seat stays?) so that it would take a lot of edge off the rougher stuff while being stiff in the BB area...I'm still waiting for it to snap to get a 2010 😉

Tue night 6mr ride

This was a record speed, record time ride.

Fast indeed. Having the C'Dale rep there certainly lit a fire under J's ass. He habitually steps up his game when there are VIPs present. I knew this was going to be another event in the 6-Mile Race Series Presented by Halter's. :getsome:

I stopped to assist Flecknoe with a light issue. We were in the fields about 2/3rd of the way through the ride. We were stopped for less than 30 seconds...and never saw the leaders again. Gone!!! 😱

I was running the helmet-cam and had already gotten plenty of footage of the fast guys. I decided I would chill and hang with everyone else. 😉 I tried to make Adam crash but he resisted.

I realized only AFTER the ride that this Cdale rep was the same Bryon Kremer who won the B's race in Nittany ... He looked like he knew what he was doing!

On the way back, Adam apparently lost his vision. So a crash would've been easy to arrange.

Yeah, Bryan nearly lapped me at WhirlyBird CX. 😱

Adam's light died but Bill and I provided a "Love Sandwich" to get him out of the woods. He managed to keep the rubber side down.

I brought an extra battery and mem-card so I got tons of video footage. Results were just SoSo though. 🙁 I will be editing tonight. May take me longer though.

I didn't realize there was so much drama on the trail last night... from my perspective you were all one group, 10 minutes ahead of me.😱
