Dickerson Mine Preserve Conditions

Rode DM today at around d 6:00. Most trails were ice covered but we managed to do close to 7 miles. Completely avoided Marty’s as it was too packed. Yellow had the perfect mix of sleet over ice with oodles of traction.

Saturday 2-22-25 4pm. Snow and ice.

I was impressed by this removal. Moreso by the brute strength required to roll the cut log off the trail. There was another one similar to it nearby. Did you ride in on a bulldozer? Lol. I appreciate the effort. I'm trying to do more fun (w/o chainsaw) rides and it was nice to ride a completely well maintained park..

Conditions here were really good on Saturday afternoon despite all of the rain. This place drains really well; must be the old mines!
Didn't ride the newer trails in the northern end of the park, since these are usually wetter than the rest.

I was nearby for a Dr appointment this afternoon so did a lap of Green to clear drainage and debris. Some sections had a river running down the trail which was more than I could tackle but I did a decent amount. No logs to clear on this loop, just needs to dry out.

Really good conditions on almost everything. Couple of soft spots, particularly the approaches to the skinny/plank bridge on King Mine/Yellow. I didn't bother riding any of Baker/Green as the start had two pretty mushy sections, and I knew that meant a bit deeper in it would be worse (on the other side of the field I think?).

going counter clockwise the wettest areas where right after you cross the power line for the first time and tuck into the woods. Rest of trail was decent. But yeah it could use another day. The new trail that starts at the old VW Scirocco wreck is very nice. Good work by the DM crew.

Overall good conditions at the Dick today. Some mud on the extended yellow trail by the boardwalk, but everything else was dry/tacky. Didn't ride northern trails; assume these were muddy as per usual.
Rode the new trail from the Frank St lot to the fire road; good stuff!

Im trying this location out for the first time next week. Any recommendations on where to start and on bike set ups? I’m always curious what people like for their bike choice/setup at a specific park.
I’m on a Canyon Spectral with 140 front / 120 rear suspension.

Perfect bike for this park, very little that would require more than 140mm. I typically park behind Middlebury Blvd but there are a bunch of options (Mine Hill Beach, Black River Park etc).

It's one of the few parks you can just start riding and you'll loop around to where you started without much trouble. Only trail you should be mindful of is Marty's which is a purpose built DH trail.

Heres my recent RWGPS track that hits pretty much the whole park including the new trail.

Note that the Beach (Orange) trail (see highlighted below) is very technical. The rest of the park is intermediate to easy.

We usually park at the Black River Barn lot (see circle) and head to the Black River trail, and end up back at the lot from its parallel trail (see arrows). Then grab a brew/bite at the Barn after. Hope this helps. Enjoy.
