Darkness at 909

Shoot!
Wish I had known about this earlier...
then again, seems to be off of nearly everyone's radar...why? 😕

I hope to make it up there this year, I'll be getting back in town Friday night so I might be needing some family time. But I'm not ruling it out.

Well you guys missed out on a good one. Hit rain as soon as I crossed the NY line, hardly let up until I was on the Tac heading south. I heard it rained up there since 6 last night. I was all set for a cold, wet muddy ride. Turns out there was almost no mud, no doubt to a thick leaf cover and it turned out to be a warm rain. Caught up to my daughter in the beginning and since this was her first night ride ever I finished the race with her. She also had a blast. I'll be heading up next year so now I have a while to come up with a costume.

Thanks 909 Crew

Thanks Tim, the folks at Bikeway, and the volunteers that ran the event so smoothly. The elements could have played havoc, but they just added another dimension to the event. It was a warm rain (kinda like a dry heat). The trails were sweet and I'll have to go back in the daylight and give the place a proper recon. From what I heard last night there is a lot more to see and some of the trails are even sweeter. My frankenbiker is displayed in a place of honor. Thanks again.

The rain was epic. As I was under the starting tent lined up for my go it really opened up. Sheets of water! I have never ridden in such wet conditions. As was said surprisingly not muddy- just wet wet wet. The rain was warm and it was without a doubt the freakiest night ride I've ever done. The trails were streams, the puddles were deep and on the few trails that really loop back on themselves you could see half a dozen lights going every direction, all on different spots of the trail. For those of us that endured it turned into something special, a thing not often done under conditions not often encountered. The closest race to compare it to (for rain conditions) would be Plattekill when it opened up there and everything turned into a river.

After the race we all felt a little extra comradery because of what we had all endured. Homebrew, some red wine, some rum and a great attitude made waiting for the awards very enjoyable.

Kudos to Tim and crew for putting on the event in those conditions. I hope next year the weather will cooperate more and there will be a bigger turnout.

Here's a hint. Not many people preregister cause Tim usually starts the race with preregistrations first and then order of registration after that. There will be a good crowd there. I know the first three racers out of the gate 😉 If you are even thinking of this race...DO IT! It's an absolute blast. I'm still debating as I might race cross the following day.

I'm heading up. Just haven't signed up yet. Good fun race, if you don't dress up, you kind of feel out of place.

Dave, What are you going to wear? It looks like fun but is kinda far for me for a short race.
