Just a heads up that 2 cougars were spotted out between speedwell road and carranza memorial. This comes from a reliable source from one of the guys in my jeep club who spend alot of time out there.

I like my cougers in leopord print
indeed!

Spoke to someone in the forestry biz... he thinks its likely that it was two large bobcats that were spotted. Not two cougers. Bow season starts next month, maybe we'll find out for certain then.

When I spoke to the person who saw them he said they definatly were not bobcats and were chasing a deer down the road and were easily in 100 pound range. That was the first thing I asked.

I am shocked that there was such a siting in that part of the state. Then again it is a pretty large range for them to roam per NJ standards.

Mountain Lions in NJ? I didn't think we got them this far East, I wonder if they've been hopping trains like hobos. That's pretty wild.

I so don't believe this.

I hate this debate believe it or not mt.lions are here, I've seen and so have many in this neck of the woods. Skiphreak just sent an e-mail the other day of a wildlife trail cam in the stillwater area that showed separate shots of bear, deer and yes a cougar. If she sees this maybe she'll post it. Personally I'm happy to see them hear to get rid of some these deer that are over populating in NJ...

(I might believe it, except for several obvious missteps. I think someone is running a gag. 😉 ) I've talked to two people who've claimed, straightfaced, to have seen Sasquatch in WSF too.

All I've ever seen (thats scary) out there is several coyote, a bear, two timber rattlers, and a guy standing in the back of a parked pickup shooting an AK at an empty Bud can floating in a mud hole. The last being the most scary.. until he offered me a fresh iced can of Bud. 😀 (Its good to be a local.)

Here we go again-Are Mountain Lions here?

I believe the NJ Fish and Wildlife Dept. CHOOSES not to recognize any of these so called sightings as real.Perhaps it's a choice of see no evil hear no evil. Not sure why they choose this course of no action, but that is the rumor. It is kind of a scary thought though. As it is a big cat, they do tend to go after things that move, ie -us.I believe a female mtb was attacked in Utah a few years back.Would love to see this wildlife cam that was mentioned.

Just for this reason is why NJF&W will not let public know. People will want the execution of these animals because of the few cases of attacks out west. In those cases these animals were at the brink of starvation. That is not going to happen here there is just too much food supply available. There are so many factors that the chances of ever seeing are next to nill. Fact is NJF&W are actually keeping tract of mating pairs and young. I believe it's the answer to over populating deer which have no predators except cars...
