Catskills Fat bike race, anyone do it?

Oh cool.
There isn't much snow up there and it's supposed to be warm so I wonder what the course will be like.
Also the registration is a bit steep...

Agree. I think Dave had early bird pricing.
Will check if I can get a discount code.

I registered for the 8 mile (bringing a few friends as well). More in it for fun than anything else. Plus the host site - Bearpen Mountain Sports - is a cool little spot in the Catskills with many winter sports on site (e.g. XC ski, snowshoe, tubing, curling, ice skating, fat bikes).

I competed in the snowshoe race at Bearpen last weekend. plenty of snow on the mountain, but sadly I'm sure that's changed quite a bit. Looks like a storm is brewing this coming thursday-Friday that could bring some snow!

I just drove up to the Catskills this afternoon, it's hard to believe but there is almost no snow on the ground at all, seems like everything melted..... 🙁

The race was postponed until March 6th...

I was going to post last night - there are also some ice sheets on the trails, and David was worrying about a few inches of snow over ice being a bad combo.
It supposed to get cold and snow. Hopefully you can make it back up.

Yeah I am not sure what my schedule is for next weekend, it will be tougher for me to make it, I also saw that he isn't offering refunds (I think) which isn't a good look.

I did, was signed up for the 16 but with the date change I had some scheduling conflicts with the start time, so I did the 8 instead.
I don't actually have a fat bike (I rented one for the race) so I am far from an expert on what conditions are supposed to be like, but at least from my opinion it was VERY hard, lots of climbing (according to my garmin, 1617 feet of climbing in 9.2 miles), that would have been tough on it's own, but what made it really hard was that on one of the long extended climbs, the snow was fairly deep and not really packed down, and it was almost impossible to actually pedal, so it was a real slog.
So... not sure if it was a good course or not, but just sharing my experience.
It's definitely a cool spot and I am glad that they are doing fat biking.

That sounds pretty rough for a fat bike race course. Typically not too hilly because climbing in loose snow is so tough like you mentioned. Thanks for the feedback on it!

This was my first (and really only) fat bike experience, I dont own one, nor had I ever ridden one prior to the race (yeah maybe not the smartest idea), so I didn't really know what the norms are, but yeah I can see that a flatter course might have been better, but I am still happy that people are putting on races so I didn't really mean to criticize, but was just giving an honest account of my experince
