Cars, it's electric! Do Do Do

@JerseyPete lol I don't have that kinda dough!
Honestly, I missed my OP to have a Tesla youtube channel years ago to get that kinda cashflow DAMN IT!

Two years ago though I do regret not getting the Roadster 2.5 Sport! They are worth double now! I got the ludicrous Model S instead which I daily.

So what I read here, is only 5-6 times a year you would need to consider where to charge mid trip. Other than those trips, you would never need to stop anywhere at all to charge, if you plug it in at night. Seriously, imagine going to the gas charging station 5 times a year. Just sayin.

i would also be unable to run errands on my way home from work (which i do regularly) without charging somewhere. (i dont have access to chargers at work, and if what i see is right the cold cuts range by anywhere from 20-50%, probably dependant on how cold and how much heat the driver wants). Also iirc the range they give is mixed driving, straight highway range is actually somewhat less because of the aero drag issues (i could be wrong on this part, but i remember reading something about it somewhere)

i dont say they wouldnt be good for commuting, im saying that the majority of the population are NOT INTERESTED in a change in their routine, once a week/twice a month w/e it is 5 min stop to fill the tank.

i still stand by the fact that its a good thing many people are holding out since the power grid certainly couldnt handle that much load, no matter how many superchagers they put in, or how many charging stations they install at the mall, that power still has to get there from the power plant. and since most of that power in this country (~60%iirc) is generated by coal, you are just moving the pollution from wherever you drive to the stack of the plant. . . .

im sure they will get there eventually, but right now, for me its a no go.

I bought a CPO outback 3.6R for 23k
Was this pre-covid mania? I was looking in April and was after a 3.6 but it sold before I could get to it. I found a nice 2.5 for a decent price considering where the market was heading, but really wanted that extra power!

... im saying that the majority of the population are NOT INTERESTED in a change in their routine, ...
Valid point. I believe this to be the strongest reason for any resistance to change.
Just ask an iPhone user to switch to Android or vice versa. Most people are comfortable with what they know and are used to.
Anyone who has driven stick for years and then gets an automatic still goes to grab something when the RPM's increase, and puts their left foot to the floor. I know I did for a short while.

^^This.

I'm not seeing anyone saying don't do it. I see a lot of people expressing that it's not for them right now. It's in my future, so buy one now and help move the infrastructure forward so it's available when I'm ready

I think the point being made is that the majority of the population wouldn't actually need to change their routine. Other than plugging their car in when they get home and not going to gas stations. Most people don't drive their car 200-300 miles a day.

but that IS a change in routine, its certainly not a major one in the grand scheme of things, but people resist even the smallest changes. especially if they FEEL (true or not doesnt matter) like its restricting the way they currently do things. (this happens to NOT be, but perception is everything)

but for some reason there are the same people at the air pumps everyday inflating the same tire getting gas isn't a routine its a necessity.

I might drive one with the Jetson's spaceship sound:

I think 75-80% of the people on the road could go electric powered once the infrastructure is there. I remember dirving on the GSP on a trip from New England and counting how many boring cars there were and came up with that percentage. Most of the population looks at cars as appliances and I feel like an electric powered vehicle would be perfect for them. (And make if self driving for a lot of them because they are pretty clueless).

For me - something like an electric motor swapped into a VW bug would be fun. My wife's little Land Rover RRS could be electric powered and I wouldn't care either as long as the range/refill is close to the SC V6. But I couldn't give up the 6.7 Cummins in the 2500 or the flat 6 in the 997.1. But if 75-80% of the population is "driving" their electric vehicles then fuel should be cheap and the air a lot cleaner so it should be no problem for us gas/diesel fans.

But what is the real reason to go electric? Don't modern ICE vehicles burn really clean?

Boxster is a natural EV conversion - battery cell where the fuel tank was, split cooling, mid motor with all that room!

cause.....😀

That’s a great vid. I have to get used to the high pitch whistle as I’m used to the awesome sound of a roaring v8.
Im pretty sure it sounds that way bc of some portion of the drivetrain using straight cut gears..(rather than helical like most street cars)..which is what you would need to handle that kind of power.

The vast majority of pollution come from a small group of companies, my urge to go electric is just for the same as going from my razor phone to a droid incredible, it's time for a change.

That said I I have been granted permission(we both have to agree to large purchases) to buy an auxiliary vehicle. I am getting a step van to convert to an RV or a deuce and a half.
