Car-spotting thread

How did you like shifting with your left hand? I thought it was funny. My wife thought it was nuts.
Was coming to ask the same. I feel like left hand shifting plus left hand driving would be too much for my brain to handle.

Also is the shifting pattern reversed? As in first gear on the right side of the gates vs left side that we’re used to?

I thought shifting would be tough, was even prepared to go crosshanded to get it done, but the shifting adjustment was easy.

Main thing was turns, making sure to turn into the correct lane compared to reflex. First half day or so found myself saying out loud what lane I was in and what lane I was aiming for. Same with roundabouts, which end up making things easier which is nice cuz there’s so many.

Did way better than I expected but each time going over there have the same initial nerves.

Shifting pattern is the same as it is in the US, so first gear winds up away from you etc, rather than being mirrored. I did not find this to be intuitive, but it wasn't that terrible to get used to.

In 40 years of renting cars I've never opened the hood. I did have to look for a spare tire in one that didn't exist.

I've never done it in the US but I often do in Europe just to see what's in there. In this particular case, I was curious how much it would have in common with my VW Sportwagen.

On shifting with the left hand, I don't find it to be an issue, just a little extra concentration required. I shift less too. The good news about driving around the Dublin area is that there's always a car in front of you to follow and you're generally going slowly. This time, we didn't drive into central Dublin at all - our hotel overlooked a train station that went directly to the center of the city. My biggest problem is I find myself drifting to the left side of the lane because the view out the window is 'wrong'.

The turn signals and wiper controls are the same as everywhere else.

I haven't seen these but some are saying it's a legal plate which I can't believe it would be. If it's legal, I'd imagine seeing them a lot more. Photo credit not me.

Not legal. Just a matter of how much the cop cares. Statute requires the plate be issued by the NJMVC. Not bought on the interwebs. Technically, it's a ficticious plate and I wouldn't want to run through a bridge or tunnel patrolled by Port Authority PD as they are hammering stuff like this, and it could be considered tampering with government records, which is a criminal offense.

That being said, they are cool.

You know for half this price I bought a 2014 4x4 4 door nissan frontier with 47,000 miles on it.....that has 5 times the horsepower, that could carry this piece of shit in its bed.....while going 85 down the highway...with the AC on....And in an accident, your face isnt the front bumper.

I'd like to think most of the people buying these are getting them cheap, not crazy importer markup.

As to the bed size, it's crazy how the Kei trucks beds are basically the same size as a regular pickup, especially some crew cab with a short bed. Not going to carry the same amount of bags of dirt or bags of concrete, but in many ways more usable as it's more accessible.

I see so many of these here, and I think it's because they're better than a large truck where I live. We don't have highways but we have a ton of gravel roads where you need to shove a small vehicle at a trailhead.

These things are a trend here. I think in Japan they're used on farms and in cities for utility purposes? In Japan, do they go ape shit over John Deere Gators like we do over Kei trucks? Both essentially serve the same purpose.
