That full frame will allow them to run the T-Tops and not pop out the windshield from the body twisting.

I saw one yesterday that had a huge wing installed on the back. Was going the other way so I missed the photo.

Another trip to Dublin with no deaths.

This time I ended up with a Skoda Octavia Combi, which is substantially similar to the Seat Leon I rented in Germany last summer. They (and the Golf) are all based on the same VW-group MQB platform. It was ... fine? Wireless Android Auto was nice when it worked. In 3 days, I don't think I got over 100kph so I have no idea how fast it is. I would have preferred a smaller car. Parking in the hotel garage was a huge PITA. Parking anywhere, really.

Zero mistakes but driving on the left side of the road is pretty taxing for me. It takes up a lot of mental bandwidth to not slip up.

Rental fee was something like EUR1.50/day. Then EUR12 in fees. Then FIFTY EUR/day for insurance. Such a scam. Sure, I can forgo the insurance. For a EUR 30 fee AND a 5000 EUR hold on my CC. I wonder what percentage of rentals they 'find' damage on when the renter refused insurance?

It had a tiny 3 cylinder turbo engine with a 6sp MT. Weirdly, my web searches all said it should have a 1.5L turbo 4. Maybe a rental-car special?

I thought this was an interesting detail. The cylinder head has a huge chunk of extra aluminum in the casting to span all the way to the engine mount. I assume is a noise/vibration thing.

Leaving the hotel I saw the new VW bus. Didn't have long to look at it because the hotel shuttle Hunger Games were starting.

In 40 years of renting cars I've never opened the hood. I did have to look for a spare tire in one that didn't exist.

How did you like shifting with your left hand? I thought it was fun. My wife thought it was nuts.

My guess is that that extra aluminum is taking up the space not occupied by the "missing" cylinder.
