Car-spotting thread

@sundaydoug

No V8, 160K miles.

Nice truck, even if it's not a V8. I'm guessing the super clean undercarriage is what got it to that price. I don't see any rust under there at all.

After having to drive my ex-wife's Wrangler a few times out of necessity I honestly do not understand how people drive those things every day.
They are not about comfort. Or luxury. Or performance (on pavement at least). Or, well, you get the idea. They do just about nothing as well as normal cars do.

However, if for half the year your (or in this case my) primary use case is no roof no doors, well, there's barely any competition.

For sure, the roofless thing is pretty cool. And I'm pretty well adapted to stiff-riding vehicles, but for some reason riding in that thing would make me nauseous.

yeah, i don't think i ever get out of mine w/ my back feeling better than when i got in

forgot to mention in my use case in addition to no doors no roof add blasting run to the hills like i'm still in high school (tho other cars can surely do that)

Since this is the car thread, I'll ask this question.

How do you most of you go about buying a car from someone private party? Looking at a mid-20k car, looking to pay cash no loan. I don't have a way to do a cashier's check.

Basically was going to ask if I can show them my account balance, go to their bank with them and deposit the check and verify it clears? Not sure if there's a better way to make sure both parties are happy.

Haven't bought a used car private party in 20+ years and back then I just gave them cash.

Dunno about others but if you can't get a cashier's or certified or whatever check from your bank I'm not about to trust a screenshot or supposed live login to your bank account on your phone. Easy enough to build a spoof that looks real for that purpose. But that's the technology risk manager in me talking.

Is the car local? Have a third party hold the title to the car until your check clears his account.

Or, have the seller go with you to your bank and teller/manager can verify funds in place to write the check. I once did this over the phone with a credit union in upstate NY. It's was a bank check, but I still wanted to verify with a human being that they cut that check.

Is this about the washer fluid reservoir? I'll mail some epoxy to you.

While cash is king, you can take your personal check to the bank and get it certified. This means the buyer has confirmation from your bank that the funds are there.

3rd party can hold the title while the check clears.

2-ish hours away in Charlotte. So in reality if the car checks out I'd want to just leave with it. Not even sure who the 3rd party would even be.

I don't have a bank. I use Fidelity which does have a location but it's on the other side of Charlotte, and looking at traffic it's 50 minutes each way in traffic.

I'll ask the guy what he thinks. If he's comfortable talking to Fidelity, seeing my online log-in, etc and going in-person to his bank to deposit.
