Car-spotting thread

Best bet is to hope you dont need engine work and if you do, figure it out then. 997 would be my vote for sure. Better looks, interior, and overall driving experience. Get a history report and if the ims has been done, get a bore scope done and you should be good from there
Many thanks.

I do like the looks of the 997's better than the 996's but man they have been going up in price over the last few weeks. Kicking myself for not jumping on a few 997's earlier this year and in Dec 2020. The price difference even for a 997.1 is almost double what a 996 is going for.

I've read the bore scoring can be a big issue. Part of my thinking is that the early 997's can also have bore scoring issues and for the difference I could hold that money for a 3.8 engine built by FSI. The smart move would be just finish the projects I have and keep things simple but man do I have an itch for a 911!

side marker lights, which i had removed in my 69 bird.
ruined many cars until they figured out how to integrate them into the light assemblies.

As in Pinto? Ya know what the recall did for those, install a rubber/plastic sheild over the differential👌

as a petroleum distribution manager in HS, the behind-the-plate was very popular. it solved the "which side" problem with ease!
although the middle-of-the-back was also popular, but what to do with those nice filler caps - can't put them on the car. not on the pump, it would vibrate and eject them.....
much better than behind-the-taillight (wow, bought that right around) or under the hood vw.
vette was the worst - middle of the rear deck. dual tanks on a jag - really couldn't pull the hose over the car tho.
station wagon with the tank around the wheel well - could put in 4 more gallons after it kicked off. (don't get t-boned)

ya it did, you could even get the L78 solid lifter 396.....which was a killer engine.
A couple years ago, I reconnected with a childhood friend. Completely randomly - he's an engineer at a company we work with and his name showed up on a CC list one day. Anyway, his first car in (I think) '87 or '88 was a '67 with a 327 and a Powerglide. He still has it, having beautifully restored it to original steelies-with-hubcaps condition.
