Car-spotting thread

along my ride today.

I have seen this 85-ish Mustang GT a few times for sale just forgot to take pics. I remember when these were one of the fastest street cars around right off the lot, especially the LX 5.0 without the hatchback. This one looks like its wasting away now...

I was aiming for a pic of the Vette and the firebird photobombed me. I pass this shop every week they always have something nice in various stages of repair.

vac secondary?
Mechanical....4 speed car, so it actually works really nice for this applications. But as @Dingo said...750, double pumper.

SWEET! Sounds like a lumpy cam.

Flat tappet or roller? If flat hope you broke in the lifters.
It has a comp 280H...so its HYD, flat tappet, .530 lift intake and ext...gives it a nice sounds, will rev to 6000, but drives very nicely on the street. The heads were ported a little bit on the exhaust side, it has and edlebrock RPM intake, long tube headers, mallory unilite....I did my best to paint every so it looks as stock as possible. But MAJOR improvement in power.

I actually built this motor in 2001..(only has like 4000 miles on it) so this time around I only stripped it down to the long block, replaced a number of gaskets, cleaned/primed and paint the engine. That said, I pulled the lifters, coated them with assembly lube....just bc the engine was going to sit a while. I also have an oil primer..(old distributor with no cam gear on it)....I ran that with my drill right before starting it.

Have you tuned the carb with a wide band Air/fuel ratio tool? I did my landlords Q-jet and a few holley's.
The difference is amazing, fuel economy improved along with drivabilty. Wish we had those 35 yrs ago.

I have not, but I definitely look into it once I get it back on the road....or better yet ill come over your place with a 6 pack 🙂

Spotted at my own house.

I'm sick of chasing down stuff on my V70R. I fixed the mechanical part of the AWD (new coupler, used angle gear), only for the electronics to sh*t the bed, vomiting so much crap on the CANbus that the dash board shut down. Then the steering rack developed some play. Then a wheel bearing started going (and you can only turn the stereo up so loud). THEN I saw rust starting to poke through in two spots. The underside of the car is super clean, so I'm guessing poor prep from a long-ago respray. Oh, and it needs shocks too. And the cruise control started taking breaks the last time I drove it to MD.

Observation: the Golf SportWagen 1.8T is the only AWD 6MT wagon on the market, it's built on the underneath-a-million-VAG-products MQB platform, 7/72 warranty, nobody wants them, and they're cheap. $22,340 out the door, all negotiated via email. It's a stripper in the modern sense of the word, which means it still has alloy wheels, heated (cloth!) seats, AndroidAuto/CarPlay, cruise, etc. I haven't measured myself but I was told the seats-down space is 1" narrower and 3/4" longer than my Volvo.

Right now it's quiet and comfortable (and slow) but I'll be sure to ruin it soon.
