Bluto knocks on rebound

Just noticed yesterday Bluto knocks on rebound. After adding more air (was low) still knocking. Adjusted rebound to the slowest and still happening. Fork is only one year old. Any idea what could be the issue?

You got a video with a sound of the knock? Make any modifications (spring/damper) to the fork?

Mechanical topout can make a clunk, but the air springs have a bumper in them to stop that--but you need to disassemble the fork to find out if it's damaged. How much travel does your fork measure when it is fully extended, wheel off the ground? How much is it supposed to have?

Forward/back rocking can knock (bushing play, 'normal'), but it's typically not heard so much as felt.

Have you checked the oil level on the damper side? I'm not sure RS specifies the height of the oil just the volume but it has to be over the mo-co bottom o-ring. The lower seal can leak and allow the damper oil into the lower which may make the oil lower than the Mo-co. This may cause a knock as the fork compresses and eventually will lead to lose of travel/hydro-lock. I've had many RS Tora/Recon/Domains leak like that. It's usually a small o-ring fix. In fact, I bought a 100 pack of that o-ring and have it in the garage...

Just a thought!

I didn't make any modifications. No sign of oil leaks. Fork is basically brand new. No more than 200 miles on it. I'll have to take a closer look.

when rocking I can't feel anything.

I broke my Bluto 3 times until I got smart and used tokens...which it came with none, so you might need to add one or two. The fork is real easy to service so get a seal kit, Rock Shox grease, some oil, and have at it because these need frequent service to keep them smooth.

I second the oil level suggestion. I’ve had this happen on my Rebas several times. Not sure if the Bluto uses the same internals design tho.

Did you check the nut on the seat? Sometimes that’s the problem.

Too funny. The first Unix editor I used was a line editor on a paper terminal. 1979? Using REs as the language. They built it into sed and vi came along (now vim for most). Now it is expected that everyone talks a little eRE
