BIYF Winter 2015 discussion thread

Security, peeps know where you are and can watch for patterns.

why is somebody a head of state, on the lam, or in the witness protection program?

in any event every time someone talks about or post pics of a ride that they did, which can be often, isn't that open to the public? it doesn't take much to figure out who rides where, when, and with who if you read the threads.

also, i believe there are privacy settings and you can also make your rides private?

All my stuff is public,so it ain't me but it is a concern for some people. If you make the rides private, can anyone see any info?

i don't believe so. there are guys in my lbs club that i have tried to see their loops, but was unable to. i am always looking for new roads to incorporate into my rides. their stats and achievements list, but not the acyual rides.

i'm liking the 1 point ride

think i'd add on some additional bonus points -
10 hour week
250 mile week

miles and time are just not working - so why use them - the same complaints will be there for the 1 point ride.

on GPS - as long as 1 person can audit if someone is called out, that works.
(random audits, put your bits in the cup please.....)

Hey, have a great Christmas!

I am checking out, something that should be simple and motivating has become what winter shoes should I buy...

Merry Christmas everyone!!!

It's actually really simple. All you have to do is quit whining like a bitch and ride your friggin' bike, Pat will take care of the rest.

Jim.

find the statement where i whined in this thread, I just read this and it's like a ping pong tournament. I will ride and not worry about this contest how's that 😀

So..what's the rule guideline and when we start.
Pat,..i do believe you are a gentleman.
You'll finish what you've start.

keep it simple. (Less work and headaches for you)

Make it simple like. 1 point for each effort. The more you ride the more points. No miles required mtb or road will apply. Ride must be 1hr atleast to qualify. Just my 2 cents.

If you ride everyday for 1hr you rack points. ;-)

I don't see alot of whining here - and i expected people to state their sides, which they have done - miles, time, conditions - have always been the points of contention.

previously, the rules for the year were done by pm, a couple people working as hard as they could to come up with a solution - it wasn't a small effort. i've tried to put it on a course to meet a consensus -

again, the goal is to take our group out of their comfort zone to score points to compete. if you don't ride in the cold, and commit the min amount of time per day for the whole week isn't that competitive?

let's not get nuts - the glory and a gift certificate from hilltop really are not going to launch us into the national ranking. i may be stretching it with the gift certificate, but gotta throw something out there 🙂

Thank Liong, i try, and i will.

AM - i'm trying to work in the group thing, just not sure how to do it. it would have to be 3+ participants, once per period - to avoid collusion.

5 days left. just have your bike(s) ready to go.

After 14 pages of comments fidodie's head must be ready to explode.

Whatever fidodie comes up with let's just agree to keep the whining to yourself.

If you like it... Great!!!

if not.... Keep it to yourself.

Thanks in advance fidodie for pulling this together and seeking input

1) when are we starting? I thought it was tomorrow

2) finalized rules? ?

not final, but this is looking close.

Let's start on the 1st - end on march 31st (we'll either have an extended week, or a short week on either side)

- we can extend the 1st week to end on a sunday night or keep it ending on thursday?? Preferences?

Rules:
- going with the 1 point per day for 45 minutes of total outside riding (moving).
- 1 additional point for each park/trail system ridden per week - road being 1 point (d&r canal we'll cut into two in trenton?) - if doing more than 1 park in a day, there must be 45+ minutes at each - your local "not-quite-a-trail" system will count if there is a simple majority of votes - or i overrule your efforts to collude against someone)
- 1 dark point per week - 45 minutes before or after civil twilight.
- 1 wet point - on road? standard bad cop rules here - no road in frozen precip, no trails when it is raining, heavy mist or better. no road in the fog either.
- 1 extreme cold point per week say sub 15F
- 1 bonus point for participating in a race - DNS does not score, DNF does, then 45 minute rule applies for additional points
- 1 epic point for road centuries, or mtb half centuries (50 miles), or 8 hours of saddle time (moving) in a day.
- epic climb - any ride with 5000' elevation gain
- I'm going to say GPS required for epic bonus points, but if you don't want your data public, someone else in the competition needs to be able to confirm your efforts.

So as an example - it is monday morning and jimv leaves his house, and takes the road to HB - after work, he hits the park we shall not talk about for 45 minutes, then over to CR for 45 minutes, then down the D&R to 6MR for 45, the the D&R back home.

1 ride
1 road
4 trail systems
5 points

next day he does the same ride

1 point

next day he adds enough trail to hit 50 miles of dirt

1 point for ride
1 epic point

------------

place points are given at the end of each week - equal to your ordinal position (ie 1st place gets 1 point, 2nd gets 2) low score at the end wins. anyone who enters late, gets last place points for the previous weeks. ties get the same amount of points.

here is an interesting question - if 3 people tie for 1st and get 1 point, should the next person(s) get 2 or 4? it would typically be 4, but to keep the series close, it might be more interesting to award 2....

------------

all week winners & ties also play off the last week in a champions round.
- working on this.

more to come -
corrections, suggestions, additions requested.
wisecracks are ok, as long as they are entertaining.
