Bike Carrier Stolen

This is a shot in the dark, or perhaps just a PSA for you guys. My car was parked at my business on Rt 22 in Bridgewater and during the night, some pieces of human filth stole my Thule Sidearm carrier from my roof racks. They managed to do it without damaging any other part of the load bars, ie, no bends or pry marks. Yes, it was locked.

So a word of warning to ya's, even if your bike is locked to your carrier and your carrier is locked to your car, it IS possible it can still be stolen. And if anyone hears that someone got themselves a cool "new" Sidearm, ask them a few questions about where and how they got it. Oh, and I hope the ilk that stole it just has a wonderful, pleasurable, crash-free ride on their bike that doesn't result with them ending up in the hospital with facial disfigurement or broken bones. And I REALLY hope that, because the lock must be broken, that their beautiful, expensive bicycle doesn't fly off their roof and under the wheels of an 18-wheeler, who's driver chases them down for ruining their rig and gives them the beating of their life. No one wants that.

i'll hold them down, you wheelie your 29er onto their face! :getsome:
He can't wheelie !

and I have no sympathy for people that steal things, doesn't seem right to me !
I think I might have to patrol 22 now and get that son-a-bitch

Man that blows the big one I have one myself with no lock on it makes me think about where it's parked. Someone knows a great rack when they see one sorry to hear this. keep an eye on craigs and e-bay...

no, that's not it, but thanks for looking out. i can't tolerate thieves either. we all know what this stuff costs and how hard we work for our money, just for some piece of shit to come and take it.

Agreed.....spend to much time saving for this stuff to have it taken away. Sorry to hear about this. 😡

That Crap is not right.
I had my old bike stolen with the bike rack on the car.
MEAN PEOPLE SUCK. Did you file a police report?:hmmm:

nah, no police report. i know a few cops and am sure nothing would be done to help me get it back. i do my own police work. like the one time there was a fraudulent purchase on my debit card from an auto salon type place. i went there, had the customer's receipt printed for me, got his address and even learned what kind of car he had. i went to his house, made the positive ID of the car, THEN went to the police. the detective commended me for such great work. at the same time, the local ATM ate my debit card because the pin was incorrect. wtf? went to the bank next day and manager said no card in the machine with my name on it. odd. turned out that two days prior at the gas station, the attendant accidentally switched visa cards and neither the other guy nor i noticed. the bank DID have the other guy's card. case closed. police would have taken 2 years to have solved that mess.

in the end, regarding the carrier, i'm happier that they took that than did anything to the car itself.

Which part of Rt.22 do you work in Bridgewater? I work on Chimney Rock in Martinsville. I will keep an eye out for anything that resembles yours'. Can you give me a pic of what it looks like, so it makes things easier for me? I have seem couple of punk ass kids around here. When I take my bike to work, I take the bike literally to work, like take it to my office.

Thieves will pay one way or the other. Like everyone says, what goes around, comes around.

One thing i always found weird about thule locks is that the lock cylinder # is printed right on them. So anyone can call and order the key.

I was under the impression that you need a proof of purchase, lock number and keycode to go along with the key order.

You can only order new keys from an authorized dealer. I've had to have a key ordered for me for my ski rack and that's how I know. If you want spare keys then you would have to show them one of your keys so they know you are the owner.

I have 2 Side Arm racks on my car and knowing how much they are I feel your pain. I'm also concerned now knowing how they can be stolen even when locked. Now that I think about it, did you add the additional lock (not the one on the arm that locks the bike) on the rack itself that goes on the cover?

I have personally ordered keys from Thule by only telling them the cylinder code (the number on the cylinder). I did this for a set of mounts i bought used.

Although i may have emailed them a picture of the mounts. That part i can't recall.

I was just going to post this, as I went through this recently with missing keys..

I've misplaced keys and all i needed was a number. Thule.com asked for the number and they sent it out. no questions asked. Kind of scary if you ask me... But what other way can you prove the rack is your own?

That is why i would only buy the most basic of mounts. All you would have to do is have a mount scoped out where you know it is commonly parked and good distance from you home and call in for the keys.

Now that I think about it.. it is a good thing that I very rarely leave my bike on the rack unattended for extended period of time. About the only time my bike is on the rack is when I'm driving. I do leave it on the rack when I take it to work for after work rides but were I work nobody is stealing anything, trust me. So from home I put the bike on the rack, drive to the lot, take bike off the rack and ride. Put bike back on the rack, go home, take bike off rack, put in garage. Never out of my sight.
