Hey everyone!! I am a huge proponent of getting your skills down for mtn biking. You can be fast but eat dirt pretty often if you can't descend or corner safely. As you heard from me last time, I have seen a HUGE change in my riding and racing results and I really think that the Better Ride skills camp made the difference.

There is another camp coming up October 12-14 and it looks like its going to be at JUNGLE!! best part is the pump track should be done by then and you can go for a great ride there after camp is over for the day! http://betterride.net/mountainbikeclinicsandcamps/mountainbikecampdates/

If you are on the fence, SIGN UP, its the best investment you will ever make. It saves you money on hospital bills and if you are willing to spend $700 or more on a fork or drivetrain, spending the same amount on a camp that will make you a better SAFER rider is well worth it.

Not to mention, wouldnt you want to get the best use out of those expensive parts AND avoid falling and breaking them? Derailluers and hangers can get expensive after breaking the 10th one. Especially if they are SRAM XX or Shimano XTR or Saint. Well this camp will help keep those pretty cranks, derailleurs and new fox fork looking brand new for years to come!!

Getting screws and plates surgically implanted in your wrist, arms, or legs is NOT cheap or enjoyable. I know the titanium makes you FEEL lighter and faster but lets be real, it BLOWS. So freaking sign up already and save yourself some more $ in the future. http://betterride.net/mountainbikeclinicsandcamps/mountainbikecampdates/

I just signed up for this. I have been wanting to do it since I first heard about it, but the last few times they were in NJ it conflicted with something else.

Did one of these this spring, learnt a few things, but having been mtbing since 1982 and doing alot of reading of mags over the years, I found it good fun but quite few of the things taught I knew about or was doing already, however if you are new to riding then they are a great way to improve yours skills

Agree/Disagree with Handyman - I think the course benefits most people, even those that have been riding for some time ,but agree that if you are very good (Handyman is - I ride with him), then the "step change" you would see may be less than for an average/newer rider .

I did the camp at 6 mile this summer and really enjoyed it. They covered all of the basic skills and while I have been riding for a long time time it was helpful to have someone show me how I could improve just by fine tuning things like position and cornering. The instructor kept things interesting for everyone there regardless of skill level.

That being said what I learned didnt stop me from breaking my wrist Sunday at Ringwood but I do know exactly what I did wrong that caused the crash. I now have plenty of time to think about it, Elbows up and out, chin up!

It was my first time at Ringwood in 20 yrs, not sure exactly where we were, I know it was 2 miles from the school parking lot, a long and painful walk back. I think it was a blue or yellow trail.

Anyway it was a rocky descent and I hit a drop off, probably 2ft, going fairly quickly the suspension bottomed out and my arms were straight so all of the force was on my wrist. Once that happened I launched over the bars and landed on my head and shoulder. Hardest fall I've ever had, if I didnt have a helmet on I wouldnt be typing right now. Ended up bruising my head, even with the helmet. Fractured distal radius, so far no surgery but I'm in a cast for the next 6 weeks then rehab for who knows how long.

I miss riding already, the fall is my favorite time if year for mtn biking. Oh well I'll be ready to go come spring.

UGH sounds awful, but at least you are here to tell us about it 😀😀, you can still enjoy the fall season, go for a hike!

Great story to tell t remind people to WEAR your HELMET!

Yeah, I guess hiking it will have to be at least until I can get my hands around the bars again😀

To get back on topic, had I followed the training I received at the camp I wouldn't have crashed. I think the camp is worth it for anyone, it's fun and instructional.

Hooray! I'm so glad everyone has enjoyed the camp and agrees that it's worth the money also. I am really sorry about the crash and your wrist 🙁. Thats no bueno. I find then if I wipe out its usually because I'm not looking ahead. I'm usually staring at what or where I don't want to crash which doesn't work. Like you said though I know why I crashed and how to correct it now so it doesn't happen again. Before I had no idea what I was doing so I never knew how to fix it either. Now I do and knowing is half the battle, G.I. Joe lol

This camp is about 4 weeks out so do whacha have to, to make it happen. It could be an early Xmas present. It will up totally up your game. It's well worth the investment! Its only my third season and I am on the podium for the h2h race series! I did no formal training I just rode my bike, practiced my skills and tried to become as smooth as I could on the trail. I didnt road ride or do anything else and just upping my skills brought me to a whole different level.

Sign up. You will definitely get your money's worth that for sure!
