Belt Drive Singlespeed

It makes tons of sense for a commuter/city bike. Noise and no-grease on the leg.

Anything else? Pointless. Chain is more efficient.

-Steve

No grease to carry all that abrasive crud thru the drive train and keep it on the chain.
Chain is efficient until it breaks. Belt breakage does not seem to be an issue so you probably won't be needing to carry an extra belt (unlike the promised land of tubeless where everyone carries a tube despite being "tubeless").

Once the 29er trend peaks I could see the belt thing becoming the next thing that everyone wants and/or argues over.

I can hear Jdog announcing the death of the chain in a few years.

Hello.....
http://www.rohloff.de/en/products/speedhub/

There are several euro companies selling these combined with belt drives.

We use the Gates Polychain on all of our machinery, I've never replaced one.

I have been starting my search for a new ride and this on the list of possible inclusions. Time to make some calls; IF, Moots,:hmmm:

The chain might be dead to me if not for my love of the Rotor Q rings.

No Chain lube or cleaning.
No chain stretch/replacement.
Cogs (is that what you'd call them?) last damn near forever.
No noise, even though a ss with a chain if awefully quiet.
No ebb to adjust,clean, grease.
Super light weight.

This all sounds real nice to me. :hmmm:

That first pick of the commandante is pure filth!

Tell me about it.... I want to ride it real bad.

If only I could come up with a way to adapt the CVT concept into the rear cog... that would be awesome :hmmm:

I really like the CVT idea with the belt drive. If they can get snowmobiles down the quarter mile track at 116mph who knows what is possible.
