Arrogant Bastard?

ChrisG

Unapologetic Lifer for Rock and Roll
I picked up a bottle of this around the holidays, and was pleasantly surprised by its fruitiness and complexity. It came across a lot more Belgian in character than I expected, seemed like lots of yeast-fueled essences, but I assume it's not bottle-conditioned?

I'm halfway through a six-pack of the "oaked" derivation and find it to be more of the above, though with a harder, hoppier character.

I know some of you have more time with this stuff, so I'm wondering about your experiences/recommendations/etc.

I love it and want to try the oaked stuff but it's hard to find in the area. I did have a buddy pick up a bottle of Double Bastard that's chilling in the fridge waiting for a special occasion.

Arrogant Bastard is always on the short list when I'm browsing the "Big Beer" shelves at Marketplace in E.B. The double & oaked are great too.

M3Tim got me hooked on the A.B. Ale. Such good stuff.

I tried the Stone IPA, also very good. Interesting aroma for sure, not your typical IPA.

I love this stuff. The first time I had it was a Eulogy in Philly, they had it on draft, and it was even better. 😀 I haven't tried the oaked version yet, but it's on my list.

This place is great for looong afternoon:

Oaked IMO is the best offering Stone makes. I'm not a huge Stone fan to begin with thought so take it for what it's worth.

Have you had there Russian Stout

Don't recall. When it first came out I bought everything they offered and nothing impressed me. If I see the Russian Stout I'll grab some but in general stouts are my 1 of my 2 favorite styles of beer so I'm a bit picky with them.

You?

Yes, I really liked this Stout. They achieved a great combo of high abv and smooth taste. If Stout is your thing this would be a good choice. Last weekend I drank Oskar Blues Ten Fidy right out of the can and it was AWESOME. Again another Stout to keep your eye out for.

While I cant describe my experiences as eloquently as Mr G just described, I have tried the Arrogant, Oaked Arrogant and Double Bastard varieties I will say that all have a distinct taste which seperate themselves from each other. All three are fantastic.

The double IMO will give you the most hop/ipa like taste.

I have tried a few others from Stone and have not been dissapointed. I currently have a 22oz Old Guardian (barleywine) waiting for me in the fridge.
