Anywhere to buy 42t cassette cogs in central NJ?

If the mail gods shine on me I may be getting a 28t wolftooth in the mail tomorrow or saturday. Do any shops sell 42t cogs for SRAM cassettes?

Halters? Maybe some shop up in sussex? I know I am gonna want to ride this weekend, but my bank account said no on ordering a cog online until payday tomorrow.

Jay at Halters has to have one

I only stock shimano and I would really recommend the 40 and NOT the 42.

The shifting gets way better.

I would always recommend starting with a new cass and chain so this whole setup wear together nicely. If you are going to do that, I would also tell you to run a shimano cass as well. Even on an otherwise all sram bike.

Hope for example will not make the 42 because they found the shifting to be so bad. They only make the 40.

Hmmm, I wanted to run 40t, but I thought I read somewhere that I needed to run 42t since my cassette is 11-36. 40t seems to make much more sense though.

Unfortunately, I don't think I can swing a new cassette/chain right the moment. I'll give you guys a call in about an hour since I definitely want to pick up a cog tomorrow at least. Thanks!

if you want to see the 42t in action, pm me....its the OneUp. all shimano with race face ring..

28x42 seems really low anyway, unless you are pulling stumps.

Yeah, I figure 28t is kind of overkill, but I fractured my knee in May so have only been riding road for the last month and only been on the MTB twice. Plus I got a really good deal on the 28t already mounted to a crank arm that will fit perfectly with my existing crankset/BB.

I concur with Jay. I tried the 42 and the shifting was clunky. If a 40 is an option, I would go that route.

For the record, I'm using a Wolftooth 42T with a Shimano 11x36 cassette and SRAM X-9 derailleur and the shifting is fine. YMMV.

Soulchild is right. I have the wolf with the 40 on XTR(new cassette, chain sprocket, and cable) and it is not as smooth as it was before... I am not saying it bad I am just saying it is not like it was. I would not do 42 based on the shifting of the 40.

just to follow-up, as i didn't add an opinion - my set up is all new
shimano cassette with the 42t+16t oneup mod, chain, new xt shifter, xt derailleur(786gs m), and the 32t race face n-w chain ring.

shifting is crisp, and never a second thought about it. have about 4 hours of riding on it so far.

if the set-up is not a 1x, then the oneup rad-cage mod is recommended...(from my reading and discussions with DG)

best of luck - nice not worrying about a front der!

Interweb reviews say 42t with SRAM is fine. With shimano, shifting isn't what it should be. I can confirm this.
OneUp sells a cage that replaces the one on shimano derailuers. It's called a RAD Cage. I bought one but haven't had a chance to put it on yet. The same interweb reviews say this cage does the trick and cures a 42t+shimano.

First real ride today at 6mr with the new setup. Only my second time on the MTB since june due to injury and illness. Went with a 28t up front and the 40t in the back. Freaking loved it. Shifting was smooth and I barely noticed the gap where the 17t used to be. 1x10 just seems so much more efficient than jumping between two different chainrings. Smashed some personal records despite having pretty weak legs right now. Most importantly it was fun!
