Adjusting length of hydraulic brakes hose

How easy is to cut the length of a set of Magura hydraulic brakes. I saw a really good deal on a set but I'd need to trim about 15 in off the whose.

I'm guessing something like this would require me to buy a bleed kit, and maybe some spare parts?

Thanks.

Depending on the brake model, you may also need a barb press.

But at a bare minimum you'll need, a bleed kit, barb, and olive. Actually 2 barbs and 2 olives if you're doing both.

So back in the day you could shorten Maguras with out a bleed kit if you were careful. Just unscrew cut, re tighten. Not sure if still the case?

^^ What they said ^^

I have shortened Hope's 6 months ago and they had to be bled after. I shortened my Magura's 2 weeks ago and didn't have to bleed them. Also, I shortened and bled my hydraulic lockout and what Jim is saying about the barb and olive is key. I made sure I had a bleed kit, barbs and olives, but I was also able to slice open the cut cable and remove the barb. The olive, however, is delicate and if you compress it at all it will be super hard to save and get back onto the new hose.

Anyway, if you have the kit and parts, any bleed is pretty simple nowadays. Plus there are videos for everything.

Agh. I don't even know what barb and olives are 😱 I guess the round thing at the end of the hose connecting the hose to the brake is the olive.

Anyway, I think I'll stay with trusty BB7s and save the money for a fork.

Thanks.

I guess you should get service kit same like for Avid. They have all those small parts in. Make sure you have bleed kit and hydraulic fluid. I always cut lines with wire cutter.

Thank you Joe & Robson. I passed on the deal for the Magura brakes but watching those videos and checking the kit, that's something I might do in the future.

For now I just installed old BB7s and they work fine. Although I'm sure the day I change to something much better I'm going to ask myself how did I brake before 🙂

Segundo, I just shortened the hose on a brand new sram guide brake this morning. Very very easy procedure. I did not feel that a bleed was required but will reconsider after a ride or two. Bottom line is that, from my experience, you should not hesitate about doing this if you need to.

I shortened a set of Hope hydraulic brake lines 2 weeks ago and it was relatively easy. The hardest part of the job I would say was removing the "insert" from the hose so I could re-use it. Then I bled the brakes.
