A Hawk's Tale

Nice, good work. That hawk would not have survived without you.
Its kinda funny the cops came out and took selfies in the woods with an injured hawk and then went on there way.
Having worked on golf courses over the years I've come across injured hawks before, some that can be saved...some not. Years ago I came across an injured Merlin falcon, so I have that going for me.
Over the summer when I was at LBI I came across a seagull on the beach tangled up in fishing line with a hook in its beak. I grabbed it and got the hook out of its beak, when birds are injured they kinda know they are fucked and let humans help them.

well done - you know you get to name the hawk......will it be fattie? TM? bucksaw? maybe your pet name for you spouse?
(romantic points count here)

hawkie mc hawkface would be popular.

@trailhead I went by the Trust today and they still have Mr Hawk, I forgot to ask, maybe Mrs Hawk. How about just AHawk to be politically correct. I spoke with the administrator and the hawk had a really serious compound fracture on its wing, where the bones were sticking out. They have since repaired the wing but not sure whether it will heal properly to be release. If you go to the website, you can track its release status with its number, 16-3770. I'm guessing 3770 is the patient number which is sequentially assigned beginning the start of each year. They are already at over 4500 this year. The status on the website is pretty useless, just when it arrived and that it is a red tailed hawk. Hawk3770 is not taking visitors at the moment if you'd like to see him/her.

Thought everyone would like to know the bird is doing well and fingers crossed that it'll fly again real soon.

not hawk3770, but this red tail in the corner appears to have a permanently damaged right wing

This was a great story and great writing/suspense. Since I was oblivious to the thread until today, I was able to binge-read. Very kind of you to go through that effort.

I could understand it gnawing at you. I was once riding and startled a deer. It turned and ran through a rock garden...falling. It laid there in the rocks. Each time I stepped closer it flailed a little bit. I felt I was making it worse. I decided to ride off. I got no more then 10 minutes up the trail and had to turn back. When I got back there was no sign of it. I was left to hope that it managed to calm down, get up and walk out...hopefully unbroken.

Again, a very nice act of humanity on your part.
