2025 Garden Thread

Cleaned up the berry enclosure in mid-March. Sprinkled a cup of acidifier (elemental sulfur) and a cup of Holly-tone around the blueberries. Worked it in gently and mulched. Also, started tomatoes, peppers, eggplants indoors in mid-March.

Cleaned up the garden a week ago but having trouble finding the time to get out there since. Need to get motivated.

Planted broccoli and cauliflower seedlings I bought from a nursery this afternoon. Some lows below freezing forecast for next week. We'll see how they fare. Should be okay for brief mild frost. Nothing below 28º or so. I might cover them if I get to it.

About half the broccoli and cauliflower seedlings I put in were gone. Cut off at the stems. At first I thought mice but I put our a bunch of traps baited with peanut butter and didn't catch any. So, likely no mice. Birds? This makes sense. I found a few leaves outside the boxes.

Replaced the plants and put up bird netting to protect them. Left the mouse traps too, just in case. The joys of gardening.

My guess is chipmunks. They are a plague by me. They eat everything.

we got a small cluster of fruit on 1 tree - didn't make it tho.
Sue will go out and play Shidduch (Yenta?)

Persimmon got deer nibbled when the old cage blew off. prob not happening this year.
Does look like some flower buds are happening tho.

Deer love to eat persimmon. The tree and the fruit.
It will push leaves and branches before flowers. Did you get a grafted female?

Chipmunks are annoying. They dig everything and break if they don’t dig up. Wabbits are the bane of my existence though. They eat everything and strip the bark off of young trees and shrubs.
I have to cage literally everything.
