Yes - I use workout where the resistance changes to match my power output for that interval. I never used sim mode...yet.
Ok in that case yeah I get your question.

Are you using Zwift or Rouvy?.
I also do structured workouts in Erg mode, but honestly the main fun of Zwift is in the group rides, races, pacer bot rides etc... so while I might split my rides 50/50 between erg/sim. 90% of the fun that I have on Zwift and basically 90% of why I keep the subscription is for the sim mode rides that I do.

Interesting... I'm the opposite. I mostly do structured workouts in erg mode with a few group rides and recently some racing in sim mode thrown in. I don't find pacer bots all that appealing.

I took a 1 month Zwift trial so I've been pushing my TR workouts over there. It's been years since I've tried Zwift so I figured it could be more fun than I remembered. I still just cannot care about the gamification angle, more power to anyone who does. And Zwift racing makes zero sense to me unless you can verify your opponent's weight. Bunch of dudes doing 6 w/Kg for an hour that should be on the world tour instead of Zwift.

ERG mode and watching YouTube for life.

I generally agree. I do very little racing but when I feel like it I look at it more like getting pushed for a good workout rather than focusing on the results. with being stuck inside its more a mental game but I try to push myself a but like if I was on one of the outdoor weekly group rides.

Yeah, I find game-type interface of zwift a bit childish. I am delibrating about trying Rouvy just for their supposedly real scenery. As far as zwift racing I find it quite hard, but somewhat fair. Maybe your racing score is too high and zwift puts you in a higher racing group?

I just switched to Rouvy to try it out. One of the cooler advantages is being able to make your own routes and ride any GPX file you find. Like, you can train for a race by riding the actual race course.

I actually haven't even tried. I've just watched guys like Will Hardin and Jeff from Norcal cycling get their doors blown off so I figured what was the point?

Maybe I'll replace my threshold workout with a race next week to give it a shot.

I find myself listening to music during harder intervals.

Z2 stuff is when I’ll look for a show or movie. The problem is I can never find a show or movie that holds my attention. I’m sure there’s good stuff out there but I’m not finding it. I end up bailing and looking at my phone (specifically the what are you watching now thread lol) to find new shows.

I’m doing a month of TrainerRoad now. I’m following the plan that the ai said would raise my FTP 11 percent in a month. In the name of science 😂

But I also have Zwift so I’m doing every loop in tour de Zwift. It’s really just another mini goal that helps mask the masochistic reality that indoor training is. Just put your head down, get the work done and look forward to having great legs in the spring.

yep same here. I have spotify on my "streaming TV" while zwift just runs on the other one. i like to crank some EDM or club music for the intervals or workouts so I pay attention to the sections, otherwise I get distracted with whatever I am trying to watch and usually miss the next workout segment.

They need to rebrand that number something totally different. The forum is full of people pissed about it... Cause it's absolutely not FTP in the traditional definition of the number.

Doesn't really matter to me personally, I don't use power to pace for racing.

I haven’t been over there in a while, but I can imagine. But now i am curious that they defining it differently? Are they saying I’ll be able to get that FTP if I do a trainerroad ramp test?😂

And while i am on it, these workouts are hard. I did TR for over 2 years and it really fried me. I am trying it again a little out of boredom and also because they added the “masters” plan which gives 2 days of intensity instead of 3. 3 days of intense TR workouts a week, every week, is a disaster waiting to happen. Unless you just do these workouts and devote the remaining 22.5 hours of the day to recovery. I have never had a human coach prescribe me as many challenging workouts as this app does. It’s a little nutty. I’ll do the month, maybe two, and see how i feel. But I’m thinking it will be short lived.

So it's kinda just a training number. It's based on a threshold 3.0 progression workout... Which pretty obviously isn't what you can hold for an hour.

They're apparently going to release a 20 and 60 minute power curve estimate soon which I think will calm things down.

I'm pretty sure their old method of lots of Sweet Spot was fine at low volume but had too many intense workouts at a higher volume.

I'm jumping back into TR this year a little more since the weather is legit bad but with all this work on AI integration etc etc I find it frustrating they still can't figure out how to do multi-sport. In doing two heavy weight days a week and at least one threshold run workout, it doesn't take it into account in any meaningful way.
