Since COVID-19's spread to the United States earlier this year, death rates in the U.S. have risen significantly. But deaths attributed to COVID-19 only account for about two-thirds of the increase in March and April, according to a new study.

This is a summary of another study released in the last two days on underreporting of C19 deaths. It is consistent with the studies cited earlier in this thread. What is striking is the skewed numbers supporting the hypotheses.

The literature says there has been a decline in reported cases - but their theory is that people
are not reporting because they don't want to go to the Dr, vs a reduction in casual sex.
Could correlate well to lockdown status?

That list is BS. I was in 7 different states last week and nobody said anything anywhere. Same as the mandatory quarantine when I bought my Camaro. Was in 6 States and went straight to work. Nobody said anything. No one enforces any of the rules. Do whatever you want, as long as you wear a mask.

Did you read it thoroughly? It's attributing most of the excess deaths to the lockdowns, not covid.
reading through here this morning reminded me of this guy fucking idiot (on a bike) i was forced to interact with last week while riding, he pulled up to a redlight that i was waiting at, yelled at me for not wearing a mask, then proceeded to run the redlight and keep riding . . . .

It says 2/3 from Covid.
The study then goes on to suggest that, for example, when a specific cause spikes 400% above normal, maybe it's not all from that specific cause. And that perhaps some of that 400% is due to untracked Covid.

Oh, I don't wear a fucking mask in the fucking woods, but when I crossed paths on ST with others this morning, I pulled the fucking fabric over my fucking mouth and fucking nose, because it keeps THEM ( u knew that part, doe?) safer. It also makes them feel better cuz it 's fucking courteous.
I'm not afraid to do either of those fucking things.

Read it and last I checked 2/3 is more than 1/3. I also read a lot of "may haves". Maybe you should read it.
On another note, any life lost is a tragedy and not some silly percentage number. This is the most morbid thread ever. Like Stalin and Hitler discussing who killed more people.

I was not trying to infer a 30% C19 death undercount, but show me where I said that, because I could have unknowingly inferred that.
I was saying that this VCU/Yale PhD authored paper is consistent with the CDC post #4,500 by @mfennell above. My takeaway was that the huge excesses in NYC cardiac and diabetes deaths may have been actually caused by C19. Or, as the linked article said: "This data, (Dr. Steven) Woolf said, suggests the COVID-19 death counts reported to the public underestimate the true death toll of the pandemic in the U.S. "

I would honestly like to know what you think the long term plan should be. Masks + social distancing = Flattening the curve. Flattening the curve does not eliminate the virus or stop the spread, only slow it down. Even a vaccine (which could take many more months/years) is only likely to be partially effective.
What is your proposal?
