Running will definitely help with cardio. Better cardio, you will have more fun on the trails.
For whatever its worth, it does a body good but from what I have read, you need to keep your heart rate up at least 30 minutes on your runs to see noticeable difference. Anything less than that, altho there will be improvements, they will be very gradual.

I'm not close to pushing my cardio my body is way far behind, if you look at my run from yesterday at the end of my ride I was picking up speed up hill. My body needs to be in better shape

I mean no offense, but IMO, cardio should be the last thing. You just need to be consistently out there and drop the weight because its going take a toll on your joints. If I were you, I would first focus on the weight and then you can start pushing the envelop.

Carrying additional weight is very bad for the joints at 38 I have serious knee issues in my right knee and I think it has to do with being over 200lbs. For the record Paul even if your cardio sucks we will still hang back with you wouldn't want to miss the crashes!!

Dude... my cardio does not suck... well... it aint too bad lol
You guys would be eating my dust right now if I didn't get hit with the fire and lose saddle time! 😛

Next year, I plan on getting back on the commuter bike at which point.... I am sure I will make you suffer. 😱

I know what you are trying to do and it is absolutely appreciated.
I just don't have the interest nor the time to train to race. I am fairly content right now with hanging out with the guys and having fun on the trails. I don't need to be lightning fast to enjoy the trails. If I fall behind in fitness and I can no longer keep up or be in the mid pack and I get drop from the fast group.... no feelings will be hurt. Does that mean I wont be out there? Absolutely not. I will be out there on the trails having fun.

Having said that, it would be awesome to see you guys race whatever cat you guys end up with and I hope to be there you when you do but that will be done from the sidelines.... and to heckle!

want to do a race next month?

If I can commute I will be dishing 50 miles on non daycare days of hills on hills on hills, I will murder everyone.

I am trying to drop weight, my issue is I'm not active enough and my job does social lunches, if I don't go to these lunches I miss out on networking and free food.🙁

f off! 😛

Use a foot/cadence sensor. Mileage and pace will be accurate. Yo can wear the phone in an armband... c’mon man.
Or a fanny pack... you know I love my fanny pack 🙂

Haha neither do I and fast is a relative word as you know. I just want to survive CAT3, doesn't matter if I'm DFL as long as I put in a decent effort

You're 38? thought you were in your twenties given your young child
Let's play a quick survey today. No need to give exact ages but which bucket do you fall in? I'm in bucket 4, soon to be in with Frank, but then again he'll soon depart to the almost dead bucket...

1) under 20
2) 20-29
3) 30-39
4) 40- 49
5) 50-59
6) 60- almost dead

I am going to proudly take that as a compliment. Jan. going to be 39 in my 20's i was in incredible shape. Last couple years i have realized my health is going to take effort unlike my 20's so picked up mtb and soccer to find activities i enjoy to help ensure i will do rhem
