I'm on the fence with this. I feel that corrupt New Jersey will just make this impossible to function as intended. I also think that Jorba has done a great job on all of the surrounding trails which is why I support them with my annual membership/donation so they can keep working. It's my opinion why would I want to pay someone to undo everything they have done? Now, if we look at it another way, I am sure @Bleeder knows what I am talking about. We already pay astronomical taxes and such here, why should I (or everyone else) pay to ride trails that are free now. I am also concerned that what makes Jungle, Jungle will be destroyed and just turned into flowing single track.

That's just my opinion.

My opinion as well.

Looks like they are really pushing hard to get someone to commit to this project.
I wonder if they have any serious lookers, or is it all high hopes on their part?
It makes me wonder what other regulations and restrictions they will come up
with once someone takes the bait and does it.
Interesting!

Well I can't blame the state for trying to seek revenue from parks, this will ultimately keep our taxes down. The Christie Admin is looking at every possible opportunity to raise funds and operate within the guidelines set forth in parklands and greenacres sites. If someone is willing to lease Jungle for 10 yrs at $12,000/yr + a cut of the profits so people can mountain bike, the state would be stupid not to take that money...but who would be dumb enough to sign that lease?
The state is going through the motions because it has too, it does not mean it will happen. We as users of Jungle trails need to support Jorba and let the state know we want the trails to remain open to public use.
It doesn't matter how much money jungle habitat makes ,your taxes are never going down. Never. If all our parks charge for parking your taxes are never going down. It would be nice if a parking fee went for the trails, but it won't. It would be nice if money for my pension didn't go to a failed casino but I had no say in that either. It would be fabulous if after working 13 years for the state the current government would stop freezing my salary so that I could afford a nice bike instead of my quiver of crap...but I digress. Riding my bike is what I love to do,but I'm not gonna pay to do it. I've never ridden JH cuz it's just too far and can't really justify spending money to spend the night. I'm willing to bust my ass maintaining the trails for the enjoyment that I get out of riding them but if I gotta pay to ride? There's gonna be a couple more bikes for sale on this site.

"The move comes as the cash-strapped Garden State looks for new ways to generate funds at state parks."

Can someone please explain how the most densely populated state which has the highest mean property taxes in all of the USA can be cash-strapped???

And now they want to charge people to ride a bicycle in the woods?? What will they think of next...

A 1 cent tax for every square of toilet paper you use to wipe your ass.

I think I just had a Hershey-squirt from laughing so hard.... that's gonna cost me a couple dollars in toilet paper + tax + toilet paper tax + paper bag fee (instead of plastic) + personal property tax (because now the toilet paper is my property)... for a grand total of $65 per square.

Funny thing is, I can see that happening with the way things are going...

Maybe they'll charge fishermen to fish? Or hunters to hunt? Or golfers to golf? Oh, right. They already do all those.

Seriously though, I think the users that pay end up with a lot more preferential treatment then those that don't.

I know this is not going to go over well but just my 2 cents...

True, however it's not really an apples to apples comparison. Maybe the fishermen to fish which would be tough because of the impact to the wildlife. Golfing is in a league of its own.

It's like saying let's charge people to hike or jog in the woods. Or walk on the street. Where do you draw the line?

I was reading the article, and noticed that they ended up linking my video I posted on Youtube to it. First time using the gopro chest strap so the angle was crappy, along with my riding skills.....but still pretty cool!!

Everyone gets their 15 minutes at some point. I'm glad you came forward as I was wondering who did the video. Angle was dreadful as you said.

I actually just emailed them this AM. I'll give them a day or two to respond then I'll call.
Hah, here's the reply:
You will need to file an OPRA (Open Public Records Act) request with the Department of Environmental Protection.
