2016-2017 Schedule time

The Clifton ones are early, I think they start at 5:30 because they don't have lights. Randall's Island we do 6:30 or 7pm. There's enough ambient lighting from the soccer fields and roadways around where we do it that we can keep going in the dark once the clocks roll back. Since you're already in the city, bring your bike to work and head over after work!

I can confirm this is true. The clifton ones go until there isn't any more light. Unfortunately because the event is a spontaneous occurrence where a bunch of folks just happen to show up as opposed to an organized event there is no possibility of marking a course with cones or putting up barriers but over the years since it was started by "a guy I know" everybody has learned the course and it has evolved into something pretty good.

CX practices are really a lesson in democracy. Build it and they will come. Want one in Jersey City? Make it so. initially, Clifton was just like 3 of us idiots prancing around a field in spandex.

I think that was one of the my favorite things about the Clifton practices, that the course was burned in just enough to not ruin the park and everyone knew the race line without cones or props, etc. We change it up every week (with the exception of a few features we use over and over) to try to minimize our tracks because NYC parks are not fans of bikes.

I do most of my riding early. I'm up at 5 and I'm either on the trainer or at Liberty State Park or grinding up and down the cliffs behind Hoboken. Right now, I've dedicated Wed AM's to CX practice. I created a "dog track" (https://www.strava.com/segments/12309831), but really, what do I know about setting up a course to practice on. I built some barriers out of PVC that are collapsible so I can start tripping over them. I figured once the Wednesday evening rides started I'd try to dive into one of them. I'm enjoying the "exploration" of starting this on my own, but eventually I just have to hook up with some people. If the options aren't there (time-wise), then I'm going to take your suggestion and start something on my own. It's a progression.

All that being said, Randall's seems like a decent option.

So the interweb machine is telling me that CRCX registration opens in 9 hours on the money pit known as BikeReg... Has NJBA set the start order for the categories yet?
Need to choose between Cat 4 and Cat 4 40+. #Cat4Problems #Cat4ForLyfe

CRCX as in Cooper River? i think you can wait a couple days to sign up for that one, unless cat 4 still stages by registration?

Yeah, Cooper River. Cat 4 is supposed to be by NJBA Cup standings for the first 10 and then reg order or something, but last year it seemed to be by reg order. I dunno, I'm just OCD that's all.

You better go ahead and register for both classes. If you wait 3 months you may end up in the second row.

*everyone* loved bubble. Everyone bitches about every race venue when they leave, except last year at Bubble. Everything about that course was done pretty well. Beach 3 times yet you never got the feeling of "this was thrown in here just to have sand" like you do when you go through a crappy volleyball court.
Have you forgotten about the bumpy, washboard ride in the grass? Bringing my full suspension next time.

But yes, that course was super fun.

I'm also wondering about the 2016 NJBA start order. While I understand the democratic impulse of shuffling it every year, I also appreciate knowing that the MAC order is always the same.

Speaking of which, hasn't CRCX switched to the MAC this year anyway?

CRCX is still on the NJBA calendar page. Not sure about MAC, although, the start times look nothing like other MAC races.

First time racing CX this year. So I'll be a cat4.
Do fields fill up fast? How far out do people register?

NJ series races don't fill up, so don't worry.
MAC Races do, especially the first few. I really recommend racing nittany. That's a cool experience for a beginner cyclocrosser... Although, the rest of the races will be a little of a let down.
