2016-2017 Schedule time

CHARM CITY!

I think HPCX was only twice.

I actually really liked the HPCX volleyball sandpit. The first one was super high speed and the second proved a challenge after that shitty turning complex. Totally taxing in an exciting during the race kind of way.

Well, there goes my workday.

So, as a noob, should I stay local for my first few races or should I suffer and face embarrassment in front of a larger crowd, such as Nittany?

go to the big races, totally worth it. youll have way more fun than at one of the local smaller races.

of course, just bring a cowbell or vuvuzela!

not sure where you are located exactly but tons of big races all over well within "acceptable" driving distances.

Jersey City. I've been starring at the calendars for months waiting for races to drop in. When I saw this thread I almost peed myself with excitement. I feel like an island because most of the guys I ride with have no inkling about the subtle art of CX. There is one guy who will be taking delivery of a bike soon. But until then, I'm the only sap in the middle of the park running around with a bike on my shoulder and hopping over pvc pipes.

Do both! They each offer a different experience. Nittany in particular is fun because it is generally the first big double weekend and everybody shows up.

On that note, stalk registration so you get a decent call up! MAC #1 stages off last years results and then reg order!

Looks like the first race of the MAC Cross series opened reg already. Only a handful of people signed up so far. Cat 4/5 races do call-ups by order of reg. All others by MAC standings from last year. If you plan on skipping this one, at Nittany you'll likely have to line up behind everyone at that goes to this race because they'll have 2016 MAC series points (elite racers exempt from this since Nittany is a UCI race)

Was just going to post a link to the King Kog calendar and steal Keith's thundah.

I'm willing to bet that the new course in CT at KMC Cross Fest will be very good, perhaps great.

@The Squirrel - not sure if you did any of the CX practices in Clifton last year. If not, definitely check it out.

+1 on the Wednesday Worlds in Clifton. I've only been to them once or twice and they're real good. Just hard to get to from the city.

I run* a weekly cross practice in NYC that starts next Wednesday the 20th on Randall's Island at 6:30 pm. Takes a break for a week on the 27th (#tracknats) and then will continue every week through the summer and fall. We usually have a good size crowd with a pretty mixed skillset. We try to mix it up over the course of the year with skills, drills

*and by run I mean I just show up with a bunch of cones and pvc barriers and kind of suggest what we should do

The fields at the first few races are pretty much 125 people. Even if you're last everyone is friendly and cheering you on.

I thought Granogue was a great first race last year as it was semi-technical with the turns and super early in the year. Plus it just wasn't really that far compared to some of the other races.

Nittany is a great race in the fact that it's so easy to figure everything out for your first time. It's an incredibly boring non-technical course that will beat the crap out of you if you have minimal fitness but I'll back @Heckler on saying it's a great first race.

Nittany has no confusion as far as parking, where to register, where to start, where to warmup, where to to spectate and find people, etc.

Thanks for the input. I'll look into Clifton. When does it go? I've been waiting on Vonhof who have mentioned that they're going to do a Wed. Eve Worlds. Since they're in Hoboken I'm hoping it will be more local. I work in the City and most nights I'm not home until after 7p.

+1 on being bummed about Providence moving. That was my main target race this season because that course suited me perfectly. I'm sure that crew will put together something even more spectacular though because they know people will be expecting it.

I was also psyched to go to Jingle Cross because they always had a Cat 2 race, but now its a Cat 1/2 race for the guys that are too scared to race the UCI races against the Europeans. I might just go and do the UCI race because it's gotta be worth it for the cross results points, right??

Very psyched on Bubblecross being a 2 day race. I've been saying that would be rad since the first year. Doesn't look like there's any major conflict this year either which is rad. Such a good race course, combined with the local vibes always means a good time.

The Clifton ones are early, I think they start at 5:30 because they don't have lights. Randall's Island we do 6:30 or 7pm. There's enough ambient lighting from the soccer fields and roadways around where we do it that we can keep going in the dark once the clocks roll back. Since you're already in the city, bring your bike to work and head over after work!
