Breaking CX radio silence?

Didn't this kid just get back from the Pisgah Mountain Bike Stage Race?

Yes, yes he did.

But he's an addict of all things bike related. He's riding high on MTB stoke, yet also buzzing on the upcoming CX season. Yes, he knows we are 5 months away, and yes he knows he is writing in the 3rd person, but it's just that kind of day.

ANYWAY! WHY ARE WERE HERE RIGHT NOW!?

Officially announcing my newest build! I sold my Soma yesterday and picked up and paid for an All City Nature Boy Disc to replace the death machine I raced last season.

A reminder of that glorious yet precarious machine

Unfortunately this is a teaser post. All I'm going to give you is a shot of the drop out. Why? Because she's getting a special treatment.

WHAT THE HELL DOES THAT MEAN?!

Powder. Something special, something loud, and something I've been working out in my head since December. Parts will be coming from my Wraith including wheels, brakes and bars, post, saddle - which means I won't be building it up to ride until I get the my new KindHuman race rig built up in probably mid July.

I have a very special headset set aside for this build. Think the least blingy color (which seems pretty rare) from the most quality company. Quotes are out for blast and power, probably going to try and make moves this weekend, so hopefully I'll be able to share a little more in a week or two. Until then, meet part of my new Nature Boy.

But why the hell am I going to ruin a perfectly new paint job?

I got the frame on closeout, and am not in love with the grey. The idea being the cost difference between the grey and the nice black color (this year's) would justify me spending money to get a custom color. Wouldn't it make sense to just race it as grey and save the ~$150?? Yeah, yeah it would, but I love the process of building something from the ground up exactly how I want to. I will only be buying a brake lever set, cog, and bar tape to make this build a reality, I have everything else already. Years of hoarding nice stuf is paying off for this build. Someday I will be starting with tubes and picking my geometry and torching my own bikes, but until then I will settle with this process.
 
sweet. i think about refinishing my all city, but it sort of feels wrong. its so beat up, #character

I have a parts bin Thompson X.4 straight I was planning on using but seeing yours with the -10degree I think I'm gonna have to get a new stem to make that look right with the TT angle.

lol i may put a couple of coins into it this season to make it look normal and remove the resale nub. really would like to have a nice SS rear wheel for it. i have a heavy as shit rear wheel and then another light wheel that isn't made for braking 🙁

The Wraith is going to stay in the stable for that very likely day when someone doesn't give me a bike to race. I wont be using it's group and am planning on getting a new ritchey cockpit for it, so once that happens it will be put back together and sharing wheels with the SSCX which will be raced on tubulars anyway.

My next purchase (next month ~lol~) is to buy some bags. The Wraith looks like it should take one of the Salsa frame bags really well + grande saddle bag should get me to weekend CX bike packing nirvana this spring.

Side note, considering selling the epic again. May make an official posting tonight.

EDIT - I guess I was planning on sharing brakes. Maybe I can pick up a used set of BB7s.
 
Picked up my frameset from the coater yesterday. Did my 2 hour ride, ripped down dinner then shot over to Marty's to press the headset. I was going to wait, but I think I'm morally obligated to share this here, now.

The color is perfect. I'm going to have black vinyl decals cut - open to head badge decal ideas. I still have a couple weeks of part collecting to do but hopefully I'll have this pretty together soon!

The pink is so bright the iPhone camera sensor really struggles to capture it.

That headset is a brown Chris King Sotto Voce which I saw at Marty's Randolph for a few years before buying it finally last spring. I knew I'd be saving it for a very special future build and this is it.

Saddle is a SDG Duster in razzle dazzle, Ti rail. Same saddle that's on the Wraith, different color scheme.

I'd like to get a Thompson set back on there and try and sell the straight x.4 and pick up a 10deg x.4 - it's 100mm straight brand new and only mounted to keep my fork on if anyone is interested $70 in Morristown, still have the bag.

Very much excite.

I also sat down with the 2016-17 UCI schedule and started populating my calendar for the fall.
