some exploration of new potential trail areas led to very awesome possibilities that i am super excited to get into

apparently i also got a couple crowns and a PR on the way in, hell yeah

post-work my buddy met me on the trails and we went back to explore together then ride around a little, i even showed him a cool little climb hes never ridden before and hes been riding here a lot longer than i have

great day, though my toes got cold by the end despite it being 66º this morning

Great to enjoy some spring weather on the War Pig. Here it is parked in front of where the money for the next bike is stored:

Now all we have to do is to avoid electing a President with big hands and a small, uh, brain...

I've ridden past there....on the way to Victory brewing!

The CVT ends about 4 miles from Victory, I guess. I settled for a pull on the water bottle and turned around. It looks like they've graded more to west, but haven't paved it yet, so they might make it a brewtrail someday.

Werd. The ride from the CVT to Victory is pretty ok, big shoulders.

First ride on the Horsethief. Original plan was to cut out of work around 3, start riding at Mercer Park by 4, get in maybe 1.5 hrs. But a little after lunch, I couldn't wait any longer. Figured fuggit, only have 6 months left, are they going to fire me? So bolted before 2 and was in the lot before 3. Changed in the bathroom, then tried to pair the garmin edge cadence/speed sensors, but for some reason couldn't get it to work. No more stalling, headed out. First thing I noticed as soon as I got into the woods was how it swallowed up all the roots - much smoother than the spearfish. Second thing I noticed when I got into a really twisty section was the wider bars will need getting used to - I was tagging trees left and right. Third thing I noticed was this thing eats friggen log piles for lunch - holy hell it just rolled right over even the largest one there. Fourth thing was the traction - wow! Even with all those stupid spikey gumballs it gripped the trail like glue - amazing. Found one big tree down that will need clearing by the tennis courts:

Kept on going to the east lot. Tried the trails north of their and it's a swamp, quickly turned around, but heading west to the rowing center was fine (except another trail that turned swampy). Popped out at the rowing center and there was a large group of lovely young ladies in tights doing stretches. Was tempted to moon them but didn't want to incur the wrath of monkey soup. Anywho, turned around, hit some more trails around the lake - peepers are out making a racket. Found an old foundation to a house which I never saw before:

Back by the tennis courts the ladies were out rowing and getting harassed by some buffoon on a bullhorn - you can see them in the background

Think I did just about every dry trail possible - some both ways. Would've kept riding to 3 hrs but I need to tweak the fit - my left wrist was really starting to hurt - leaning over too much and too much weight forward?

One last pic by the lake:

Gotta say I love this bike - amazing traction, accelerates like a rocket, rolls over everything. Can't wait to get it on the rocks in the sourlands. Would be really fast with light 29er wheels but the guys at Halters think I'll never use them - right now I'm agreeing. Well spearfish, you were my first mountain bike and served me well for a little over 3 years, but you're now officially relegated to the bench, only to be ridden when the thief is in the shop.

Humidity Meh. Easier to Ride Fast, Yeah!

March 9
Moving time 2 hrs 42 min

Wish I had time to make that 3 hours, but alas, I cannot.
We visited The His and Hers trails today, but now that the ground has thawed they are horrible for riding. Very loose slippery deep sand. And sand. Ugh.
Maybe this sign at the end of one of the trails says it all.

Nice average. BTW how do you guys get to take 2 hr lunch breaks??
Thanks, in warm weather is like you don't even need to pedal to ride fastly.

5 min get dressed
1:10 Saddle time
10 min shower, recompose

1:25, leave 15 min before normal lunch in your office, return 15 min after. Some peeps notice early, some late, most don't notice both. #winning.

Helps if your the supervisor of most of the people that notice 🙂

Sounds like here. I could do that too but there's no place to ride around here, unless I wanted to do endless loops around our campus. Then a "working lunch" in your office?

Not two hours...

I get dressed in my office while on calls... I run out the door, take the bike off the car and hit it. Try to do a ride that is roughly an hour give or take 5 minutes. In the cold, I'll shower when I get home. In days where I sweat, quick 5 minute shower and back at the desk in 1 hour 15 - 1 hour 20... max

I don't punch a clock and everyone at work knows I work more than 40 hours anyway with weekend projects and other crap they call me for off hours. So no one is bugging me as long as the work is getting done.

Edit - I don't work with A-holes. People are more interested in how many miles we rode and where we went....

This winter riding is killing me! 1st ride of the year with just bibs and jersey. 1st ride that the 20 mph gust didn't hit the bone. Feeling adventurous decided to the steepest climb we got [I think], only walked the 1st steep pitch. Rest of ride was golden trails drying out nicely
