Ankle is feeling much better after a few days of rest, so much so, that i ran in the local 5k last night. Can't say it was good,
but it wasn't all bad either. Pace per mile, 7,8,9 min/mile. there is an uphill in the 8-9 mile transition, but still was more than
a minute slower than last year, and ~2 minutes off my usual 5k.

This was my first run since crashing the bike back in October. Couldn't lengthen my stride! Let's call this my first workout
for the philly marathon.....(or half marathon...)

July results were good, first 500+ mile month, Highest time total
29 rides
660 miles
48 hours

So this graph says something.

Screenshot 2015-08-05 at 09.29.24.png

This is from the fitbit connected scale - accurate with the balance scale at the dr.

Ride BIYF, weight goes down
Stop riding with purpose, weight goes up
Weather gets better, ride a bit then
Ride 31/31 challenge, weight goes down

ρ = something close to 1.

The takeaway is that i should make time to ride - mensa stuff there.
about 4lbs to go to meet target - then we'll see what happens. 175 to run in november would be a bonus.

Next event, skylands tri 9/13- i'm the bike leg of an olympic distance relay. 28 miles, a couple times up one of the jugtown mt climbs. best part
about this is the 50mph downhill on traffic controlled rt 179.....had a decent average mph last year, looking to up it a bit this year. lots of hills
(and running) coming up. Yeah aero bars! 🙄

Body fat:
so the scale is saying 22% - hmm >1/5 of my weight is fat? like 35 lbs? you ever see where oprah puts the fat on the table and
says here is.....

tumblr_ly9u4krnVN1qbpzco.png

this is 5lbs of "fat" - now the model is probably 12 with a 19" waist, cause the hands don't match the body -
so i could cut my body fat to 15% and lose another 15lbs? nah. got some love handles and saddle bags, but
sub 170? maybe it is my big head......

Took a few more days off of the bike/running, and the ankle is down to a very low simmer - so should be ready for next week.

Today is my(our?) 25th wedding anniversary! We were supposed to leave for Longwood Gardens, dinner at the victory brew pub, and then Valley Forge for a bike ride the next day.

Putting it off until tomorrow because of the rain. Glad my wife wants to get a ride in while travelling. We've been doing the rent-a-bike thing the last few years, so that's good. @jimvreeland & HB hooked
us up with a new Kuat - Thanks guys.

Look for some things to start happening at RV - Getting ready for monsoon season.... Will let you know who is involved, and what's going on soon. Just get excited - ok, just commit to riding
it twice this fall.....

Got a pic from the freedom tour crit - i could do a few more of these...three years in a row there was a crash in the 4/5 race. maybe i'll stay in the 5 race ??
Finger on brake in case person in front does something unexpected going into this 90deg left turn. Rode the whole race in the drops...

maybe there is 15lbs of fat to lose 😀

Hey @pearl & @soulchild - how'd you do last weekend?

Nice dude! I wanted to do Freedom but stars didn't align. As for Jersey Devil, I'll let @pearl answer for himself, but I flatted coming around the final turn at the end of lap 2. Found a staple in my tire, meh.

Victory is great and definitely worth the drive, but it's 20 miles further west from Valley Forge. Another option if you wanted to stay close to where you rode is McKenzie Brew House. Pretty good food and brews. But, of course, you can't go wrong heading to Victory. Just thinking about it makes me want to go!

Bummer.. that was an interesting looking road race....i was out-of-town....

Thanks for the tip! I think we are planning the afternoon at longwood gardens, and staying in kennett sq, dinner in dowington. Wake up next morning, hit valley forge for a ride - was thinking city tavern on the way home,
but this might present a better option!

August Recap:

Wow August just flew by. Posted some of the trip pics from California over in the pics thread. While I can't say that there was any type of transcendental experience from looking at very large trees, and immense granite walls, there surly is a wow factor, and a bit of reminder that the planet is going to eject us when it needs to.

While i can still feel the ankle after working out, it seems stable, and a non-issue. Going easy through august was a good thing, and the weight remained somewhat stable with controlled "intake"

Strava - I came across this road while driving to Yosemite - Old Priest Grade - 1.8 miles, avg 13% up - switchbacks. As i get to the top, there is a person on bicycle ready to make a descent - the speed limit is 25 - so i look at the segment going down - avg speed 39+ - there is no guard rail, it is on the side of a cliff, and the turns are blind. I hope the road was closed....

Anyway, just to restate what i've said before, I'm always amazed at some days going out and feeling like crap, and turning in PRs (which is why i use strava - to measure improvement) - This happened last fun monday at CR - not counting the downhills (where practice is helping) - perhaps it was just riding with a faster group. And as usual, stuff usually cleaned seemed to elude me, but the logs and rocks went much smoother than normal. (those were two really crappy sentences, but i don't feel like fixing them)

Noticed that the rear shock was bottoming on the anthem, duh, haven't checked it in 3+ months. I blamed it on lack of air, @woody said it was too much vacation 😀 probably a little of both.

Going to do some tile work today - so you all should be getting treated to some interesting pics next post.

Have a safe holiday -

Given my recent interest I saw your name pop up on the higher side of one of the Sourlands segments and thought you could riddle me this:
What happens when your PR's become the KOM or top 10. Do you then chase the KOM?

Since this never happens, it is a non-issue 🙂

Although we all know fat goes down faster, so if it is a downhill segment, i'm not really thinking about it, just doing it.....even if i did install larger chainrings.

Not downhill, top of the MTBNJ heap for the Ridge Road one.

Group ride doesn't count....never tried to hammer that alone - will put on the aero bars this week.....(triathlon this sunday - i'm the bike leg in a relay.)

That was a fun ride - woke up at 4:00and rode to meet @clarkenstein and @michael.su +1 more in Hopewell. We head west and Dave's crank arm comes loose (he is riding single speed), so we head back to Mike's car, where a full array of tools is waiting. Then we did the up/down loop, and Mike remembered why he didn't like road bikes....anyway, we pace-lined that one pretty well for a bunch of clowns on road bikes....

So my usual method of evaluation is to check @Robin's time - if anywhere close, i'm happy.

Didn't notice a group ride, that is the only filter I wish they would add to the lists. Rather it be that than you admitting you ride clip ons.

Agree, they should add that as either opted in, or calculated - might even be interesting to have 2 person team, vs larger group.
the Tour of Somerville went past my house - the segments are owned by a bunch of 30mph pros in a pack!

Maybe Strava should link up with weather.com and adjust their segment times based on prevailing winds too.

that was a fun ride. any time someone's bike falls apart at 5 am and no one complains about it (openly) means it was a good group. good times. this summer, you, @Roadie and i also did pretty well pacing in the same area. that was a pretty well coordinated effort too.
