Running With the Foghorn Leghorn

Would be interesting if they made tires molded around a hoop that screwed to a rim, essentially removing the glue step. The hoop could be split so you could stretch it over the rim, then screw it down and inflate. Let me get on that.

Did that make sense in your head?

understand - like a truck tire. split rim.

- what is missing is the glue is there cause there is no "hook" on the rim. there is industrial strength velcro
that would work....but it would never come off afterwards.....

Isn't the point of Velcro that it would be separated at some point?

Yes, @stb222 made sense in my head!
Red part is the wheel, stays on the bike.
Gray is a hoop that's split, so you can stretch it over the wheel then attach with some sort of fastener.
Black is the tire, which is molded around the gray part

I am up and out the door by 8am, heading to PA to get Julia from my parents, who are taking off for the weekend at 11. I drive out, get a coffee, then drive back. Today I have her up until 5pm because her mom has some stuff she needs to do and I'm just working from home. Today is a pretty low-key day. The way this project goes is that the bulk of the work is done Tue/Wed/Thu then Friday you tie up loose ends and make sure everything is ready to go for the production push late Sunday night.

@woody texts me at some point asking if he can come by and borrow a gas hedge trimmer, which I just so happen to have. He gets there around 4:45, hangs out for a few with J, then J goes with her mom who comes and gets her and then Woody and I talk a little in the front yard before I go out and take my 1 hour of free time and ride as hard as I can. I invite him to @UtahJoe's house tonight, which is what we've got on tap. He says he'll think about it and come back in an hour or so if he's up for it.

I go ride the bike as hard as I can and try to pre-burn dinner before we go eat it. I have almost exactly 1 hour, so I drop down the hill then just let it fly pretty much from the door. Warm up? F the warm up. After about 4.5 miles I am averaging 24.2 mph. Now, full disclosure - this is mostly/all downhill or flat. I know this but I also take advantage of it. Any slight uphill sees a big drop in speed. But I'm keeping an eye on my power and I'm hovering in the 310 realm, which is good if I can hold it for the whole hour.

Eventually I settle in around 21-22 mph for the ride, and a solid 310 watts. I try to keep it steady and for the most part I am able to do that. I don't feel like I could have given much more, so I'm pretty happy with the effort today. I get up to the top of the ridge with about 3 miles to go and I get the average up to 21.5, and the power is more or less the same. The final climb to the house dips me down to 21.3 for the ride, and my Garmin power winds up at 308w. These are solid numbers for me. Not all-star, but very good nonetheless. Of course, All I need to do is lose another 15-20 pounds to get myself in the right power:weight ratio league.

Woody decides to join us, and we pile in the car and head up to hang out with Utah & his wife, as well as @MissJR and @Santapez. We eat moderately healthy food for the most part and hang out on the deck for dinner. Utah & I pose for the first in a series of pics that will cover the weekend of our eating together. I have to say that the past 2 weeks or so has seen some amazing weather. Hopefully the month continues like this. It's been really nice at night and not too bad during the day.

Crap, I forgot Stuff

I totally forgot that I went to see @jimvreeland in an attempt to fix the Creaky Ted. We swung by just after lunch and he started taking it apart. At some point he looks at me with that look he has developed over the past 5 years or so. It's the one that says, "Why do you do this to me?" I decide to take Julia to get pizza for lunch. The fact we can get a slice of pizza in Summit for $3 is hard to believe. This is her pizza eating face:

When I come back, he has managed to get the old BB out. I will tag @Delish to make sure he sees what a Viking's BB looks like. Christ, this is impressive even for me, I have to say.

He eventually gets most of the creaks out but short of rebuilding every single thing that moves on the bike, we're going to need to settle for 95%. He rings me up and we are off. J with the shirt she got from Hershey with my parents.

The mechanic part of me is aghast. I hear one little creak and I starting ripping things apart. Cannot fathom riding something that mangled. Viking murder mode.

That's one of the first times I've seen plastic cups corrode in a carbon shell. Normally only metal does that, but Norm's bicycle is special. The cups are actually rusted. RUSTED. Plastic doesn't rust. You can leave plastic in the ocean for 100 years and it won't rust, but somehow in the micro-environment of Norm's BB shell, plastic rusts.

Every time I go to Hilltop I notice the granite countertops they use as workbenches. That's some high class shit.

If you think that's high falutin', you should check out the Madison shop, makes Summit look like a shit hole.
