How often do you replace your cables for shifting and mech brakes?

when stuff stops working well. cables and housing are cheep. as soon as shifting goes to shit i change them out.

If you van still get your hands on Gore cables- they have been running great for me for 2 seasons! The brake cables (mech discs) are okay... But the rear der has been amazing and I would expect it to be even better with full cable housing

Shifter, when they brake on branches or in a wreck.
Brakes, what am I some kind of caveman that runs mechanical brakes? Too much maintenance on mechanical, Ditch them.

Forget about gore cables. Not worth the extra cost as they get crapped up just like the rest. Yokozuna is the best I have found for the money. Don't get there massive no compression brake lines, too stiff. Stick with their standard brake housing.

I can't remember the exact number of times i replace my cables because I have too many bikes but it seems like 4 times a year at least. Hell, Iv'e even had cables only last a few weeks till they were all gunked up and needing of replacing..

4 times a year? Sounds like some one playing you for a fool.

oh i was talking about road bikes btw. Seems like just a few rides in the rain and they start to get pretty gummed up.

I replace when shifting feels noticeably sluggish, generally 1 - 1.5 years. I like the Jagwire bulk derailleur housing with the L3 liner. It comes with sealed end-caps and is reasonably priced. I'm sure there are better, but I have not felt a significant difference to spend much more.
