Strictly METAL

The rare example of a band that was much heavier, but went a little progressive but is still great... Opeth:

The best sounding live band I have ever seen hands down. They are playing in Allentown PA in April btw... I'll be there.

A little progressive? They're totally progressive!
That's one of the reasons I love their music so much.
Prog metal is one of my favorite sub-genres of metal.
Even their early music was really proggy.

I've seen them a bunch of times.
They put on an amazing show every time.

If you go to Slayers FB page, they posted a pic about 8 hours ago. There are about 1100 comments, about 99% of them are calling KK a scumbag and that without Dave they will suck. lol.

I have to agree that Slayer is not Slayer without Lombardo. I never saw them live with Paul Bostaph or John Dette, but I did see them with Tony Scaglione way back in '87 at the Capitol Theater in Passaic ( that place ruled). Dave Lombardo left for some reason, so they brought this guy (he was in Whiplash at the time) for the tour with WASP and Raven. As a drummer myself I was totally disappointed. The guy couldn't seem to pull off a lot of the fast double bass playing that I couldn't wait to hear live. Worst of all was when they played "Angel of Death". While Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman were trading solos in the middle of the song, I eagerly awaited the double bass break that would follow. When that moment hit, Scaglione belts out the opening drum fill for "Epidemic" and they roll into that song.

Fortunately I saw him play on the South of Heaven and Seasons in the Abyss tours, so that made up for it.

my ever evolving musical taste has led me to these guys, The Sword. Im sure they may have been mentioned somewhere in this thread, kinda like a modern day Black Sabbath of sorts. I have heard them on the Music Choice station on tv a few times and after lunch today I went to Vintage Vinyl and bought the cd. Good stuff.

I hate so say this but I think its time for these guys to retire. I've been a fan since the beginning, but it seems like they're just going through the motions, like Metallica. BTW, youboob Hatebreeds cover of Ghosts of War, its pretty righteous.

You won't be surprised to learn that I'm a pretty big fan. The first two records are straight-up NWOBHM worship combined with a healthy dose of Sleep. Goofy-ass lyrics about swords & sorcerers and whatnot. On the last two albums they've cut down on the heavy riffage somewhat and given in to their Texas-based ZZ Top worship (a cover of "Cheap Sunglasses" is one of the bonus cuts on the new record).

They're going out on the road with Clutch this spring.

Don't know if any of you guys are Children of Bodom fans but they have a new studio album coming out this summer. A few years ago I didn't think Alexi would live long enough to put out more music.... looking forward to it!

Yes! That guy can seriously shred with taste. I'm hoping they make it a little heavier like their older stuff. Was playing Blood Drunk the other day on the guitar, watching the kids dance around like little mini-maniacs.

You are exactly the person I was thinking of when I was entering that. I think you may have even mentioned them to me in the past.

This might not fit in Metal per se but Alvin Lee died this week. i had more air guitar time with ten years after than anyone... rip.

I read this on the motorcycle forum Im on. Apparently he died of complications after a routine day surgery.
