IGVENTURE

That looks good and fits into schedule. Are you guys doing it again... anyone else?

Maybe but doubtful. There's a crit 3 miles from the house that day. That's like 117 miles of driving I don't need to do twice. Plus, gravity and all.

HG A Ride Recap
http://connect.garmin.com/activity/102223770

Low turn out last night, maybe due to heat or just summertime blues. There were enough regulars to make for a fast night, Vreeland, Eric, Bill, John, Mike G and some other HG guys that I don't know the names of.

At the start of the 1st climb on Mt prospect rd my legs felt stiff but managed to muscle my way up near the front. Throughout the ride I'm not feeling 100% but manage to do some work up front and still recover.

I don't even try to sprint on Burnt Mills but stay close enough to answer any possible attack after the sprint. We continue a hot pace all the way to Oldwick rd and make our way to the rollers on Lamington.

At this point I am feeling wiped and let a gap open up in front of me. Vreeland got into TT mode at the front and I did not have the fight to bridge the 50yrd gap between me and the group. That gap quickly grew to 100yds, 300 yrds, outta sight. There were some stragglers with me, a Knapps guy and Mike G. They peeled off at Rattlesnake rd and eventually I found Vreeland chugging up the Liberty Corner climb. Jim and I took it easy heading back as we chatted it up.

Off night for me, hey it happens. I still worked hard for an hour and once I popped I was more concerned with not over doing it since the DH40 is Sunday. I think its funny that my avg was still 20.4 mph even though I soft pedaled for the last 13+ miles. My goal from now till Sunday is to recover so I can put out my best effort for the race.

Shmev

Ah yes my older problem child,Evan. This is one kid I have to keep on top of. At 16 I've already had to deal with alcohol and weed issues with him...I am not going to play Dr. Phil but if your teenager comes home at 3 in the afternoon after being out with his friends and needs to lay down cause he's tired you best call bs on that shit.

I try to keep Shmev busy with chores around the house, + he works as a lifeguard at a local pool. He is not really into sports and has little hobbies other then video games. He is a good kid but he is a teenager doing basically the same things I did at his age growing up. My wife is shocked by his behavior some time while I kinda knew these days were coming. I often wonder who the fuck my wife thinks she married...but of course I don't say this to her. If I want to continue having relations with Mrs. Iggy I know that there are some things better left unsaid.

No one rocks a Jew-fro better then Shmev, and we're not even Jewish.

I like this album. I got this lp when I was 13yrs old and knew it was special. I hope its still in my parents house.

I must admit I only listen to side one. When it came out on disc they put You Don't Love Me on Disc one, I still only listen to Statesboro Blues, Done Somebody Wrong and Stormy Monday. When I need to debug and reboot this is my goto disc.

I still get goosebumps when I hear this.

dude I sported a fro just like that well maybe more like the guys on Bostons 1st lp. Yeah you gots your hands full but the best part is your 1 step ahead. Yes the Brothers were the shit and still are. Get their box set you will be blown of all the unreleased shit from fillmore+...

Dam, I have to dig up my old pics...I can go fro to fro with young shmev!

Video games are the devil! Get that kid a dirt bike or a fast car 🙂 At 16 my step mother would not let me eat absolutely anything in the house unless I had a job. I used to steal food from the supermarket at lunch time during this 1 month stint that I was unemployed at 16. Somehow I still remained fat as ever despite the heavy handed treatment. 🙂

Me too.

There are many moments, but the song that really kills me is "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed". Duane's last solo on that track can literally bring tears to my eyes.

i know what the problem is.

iggy, that is a CD. they only have one side. your boy is listening to static. flip that thing over and give him the goodness.

problem solved.

The last time I saw the ALLMAN'S was in 95 I think at Wateloo village... Ironically the first place I met Matty AND katie... The Pittsburgh band Rusted Root opened for them...

Those parents that were goodie two-shoes are such victims to their children's manipulation... Im hoping my own rebellious ways when I was younger will keep me on the point with whatever my kids try to throw at me... My wife is the exact opposite so identifying any such behavior falls on my lap for sure

Just cause he sports a fro and hits a little weed doesn't mean he'll turn out all that bad.

Maybe you should get him a hair cut and have him listening to the Carpenters😀

if matty brings that back, i'll bring this back

Whoa that's the anti-fro.

Iggy that's some real honest stuff u wrote. Although my kids are still young I find myself thinking about all the stupid stuff I've done when I was your son's age and just pray that they don't do stuff just as stupid but if they do that it doesn't change their lives or anyone elses in a bad way permanently.

Matty got action with that hair-do. I have to find a pic when mom used to cut my hair stoned.

Up Front

Although my kids are still young I find myself thinking about all the stupid stuff I've done when I was your son's age and just pray that they don't do stuff just as stupid but if they do that it doesn't change their lives or anyone elses in a bad way permanently.

You speak for every parent when you say this. Growing up we have all done stupid things in the name of fun. It would make my job a lot easier as a parent if Shmev was a band nerd and a straight A student, but is doesn't look like that's happening.

Growing up in the 70's in the crummy town of Roselle it was hard to avoid drugs and alcohol. I thought when I moved to Cranford in the 90's and started raising a family, the dirtbags stayed in Roselle and only good kids grew up in Cranford. I'd always heard about the drug problem in the hs but thought is was bs compared to Roselle. The fact is getting high is as popular with kids today as it was in the 70's and it doesn't matter were you live.

I kinda wanted Evan to experience this stuff before he went away to college, my biggest fear is for Ev to be away at school and get involved in stuff that he has no clue about. I remember being at college and seeing all the Freshman who have never drank before hugging the toilet after going out partying. I just want the boy to have his wits about him and not get talked into anything real stupid. This stuff ain't easy.

Jimmy are you 18 in that picture?

Matty I can't top that, when I hit wiki search for the 70's your picture came up. Right on brother!

1970's

Let's talk number 1 albums shall we. Going with Matty's 70's theme this album has sold over 25 million copies. In terms of length on the charts for solo musical acts it ranks second (behind Michael Jackson...i dont get it)
The album is Tapestry and the artist is Carol King.

Probably not Matty's 1st choice but I love this album...its so 70's to me. This featured some of the best studio musicians of the day and incredible song writing and singing by Mrs. King on her debut album.

You can warm up with this

Then when your ready listen to You make me feel... I was never a big fan of this song but after watching her nail this it's really pretty amazing. Carol wrote this song but Aretha made it famous.

I like Tapestry. If your a fan of music or grew up in the 70's you need this.

You would thunk wrong CK is the bomb she not only has an amazing voice but penned some of the biggest motown hits ever. Lyrical genius! Think Grand Funk Railroad...
