Mixed bag at French Creek

It was a case of the Good, the Bad and the Ugly at French Creek this weekend...French is a beautiful park in Bum-Fuck PA where the VTC crew traveled on Sat. for an Endurance race. The terrain was very similar to Allamuchy...big climbs, sweet singletrack, and lots an lots of rocks. The course was a 14 mile loop with 1900 feet of climbing per lap. Here's a brief synopsis:

Prez: Had a strong start but his fork locked up and only finished 2 laps 🙁
Trez: Triple flatted and missed a turn, also did 2 laps 🙁
VP: Crashed in dramatic fashion on the first lap, breaking the frame on the Superfly 100 and causing some very impressive bruises and scrapes. Only got to ride for 6 miles 🙁
CAE: Rode a clean steady race, picking people off one by one and ended up a solid 4th place 🙂
Monte: Was owning it the whole race, but faded badly on the last lap. He was so far out in front that he still hung on for an impressive 2nd place finish 🙂

Of the 25 starters, only 9 racers completed 4 laps. Lots of riders attacked the start like it was a short track race and completely imploded by their third lap.. It's called an endurance race for a reason people!

Next.

Great weekend of riding. (Even if my fork seized up) 30+ miles of riding rigid at the creek was not on the agenda, but having fun and watching Gordo rip it up was awsome! Kush looked solid out there and finished up 4 laps as well. I'm definitely going back for revenge next year.

I'm glad it never rained on that place. It would have been deadly for even the best riders.

Next: WJAP Sunday and Stewart 6 the following Sun.

I guess Mountain Dew and pop tarts isn't good race nutrition.
But seriously FC is awesome and the race allowed me to hit my training goals of 6 on Sat (FC) and another 4 on Sunday (at waway) so it's a win, win for me...

Next up - Walkerjackson-a-palooza!

Stop working and posting crap and go to the Fn' Dr. NOW!

It's not natural to bleed orange Cytomax out of your arm. Even for me!

Don't come back w/o a Doctor's Note!

P.s. We need to get a physician on staff (pun intended) for VTC.

Bill bleeds expired pink Accelerade.

Tough Day for VTC as the President and CAE were hit by a car while out on a road ride. Luckily, no broken bones, just broken bikes and some blood with the President getting some stitches at the Warwick Hospital after an ambulance ride. Big thanks to the CHO for going to get them, that's what biking is really all about: friendship.

Wow, sorry to hear this.
I'm not up on my VTC speak, for clarification were talking about Roger & ?

Glad their both all right. Makes me hate riding the road even more when I hear this shit.

When I got the tm I went totally cold. With what happened in the Giro hearing that a couple of my best friends were hit I was thrown back. Thank god (and I don't do that much) they are just bruised. I always assume I am a target on the road; everyone please ride heads up.

Rog and Gordo in my nightly thoughts (call them prayers if you will).

Thank you guys so very much for all the kind words and wishes. I can safely say that I speak for Rog as well when I say that it means everything, and reinforces why I am a cyclist...the sense of community is just amazing and I'm overwhelmed with emotion because of it.
We are both just fine. I have a huge lump (soon to be another huge bruise) on my hip that hurts when I walk, but will probably not bother me too much in the saddle. Rog also bashed his hip, and got 4 stitches in this right arm. Suffice to say, it could have been a whole lot worse. Here's a brief description of what went down:
Rog and I were 2:37 minutes into what was supposed to be a roughly 60 mile road ride. We were on West Ridge Rd. in Warwick coming down a hill at about 30 mph with Rog in front and me trailing by several feet. At the bottom of the hill, where Sleepy Valley Rd merges gently from the left, a red SUV was pulling up to the stop sign, When it continued slowly through the stop sign (I can't say for sure whether or not it came to a full stop), we thought it must have seen us, but we started to slow down, unsure if it was going to speed up, or wait to let us pass it on the right. I continued to move slowly and just as we were about to pass it, it make a quick move to the right, directly into Rog's path. He had just enough time to shout YO!!!!!!! before slamming into the righ rear side of the truck with a sickening crunch that will be idelibly etched in to my brain for a very long time.
Rog careened off the truck and went down hard right in front of me. I couldn't avoid him, hitting his bike with mine, and went down as well. We both landed about a foot away from one of a pair of large stone pillars on either side of a driveway. Scary. It took me about 10 seconds to realize that I wasn't badly hurt, but Rog looked a lot worse. He was bleeding and clutching his right arm, and was clearly in shock and a lot of pain. He was was pretty sure he'd broken his arm.
I called the cops and an ambulance and we waited for them to show. It turns out the SUV was attempting to turn into the driveway we'd crashed into, as that was the drivers residence. Of course they claimed they never saw us at all and they didn't have their signal on while making the turn.
I'll spare you the rest of the details...mainly because I'm falling asleep while writing this. All I can say is that we're both really lucky, and it could have been much, much worse. We'll both be back on the bike in time for WJAP on Sunday. Thanks again everybody!!! Especially Panhead who not only picked us up, but waited in the hospital, took us out for burritos afterwards, and drove us home. You're the man Dave!

What was the scene like in the Warwick Burrito place? Two bloodied guys in torn up bike clothes and shoes walk into a mexican joint with Castner? Man, I would have paid to see that....
