Strictly METAL

Wow. Lots of stuff blowing my mind lately. To wit:
-Black Tusk Taste The Sin
-Earth A Bureaucratic Desire for Extra Capsular Extraction
-Isis The Mosquito Control EP/The Red Sea
-Lungfish Pass and Stow
-Mogwai Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will
-Neurosis Souls at Zero
-Sonic Youth Daydream Nation
-Zozobra Bird of Prey

For whatever reason, music all of a sudden has become a pretty big part of my life lately. I admit that my tastes are pretty one sided, mostly sticking to the old school hardcore, death metal and true punk areas. My good friend Kim is the girl(i think the only girl) who works at Vintage Vinyl and while I was there for my weekly purchases, she out of the blue suggests these guys

this isnt the official video, but if I posted the video Im sure some sensitive Sally would have emailed Jake or Norm. Its Norwegian metal, but its got a really cool melody to it, they dont sing in English but its bad ass

Some of my favorites...

Disfear/Doomriders Split 7"

Ringworm - The Promise
Rise and Fall - Our Circle is Vicious
The Rival Mob - Raw Life
Coalesce - 012:2
Narrows - Self Titled 7"
Trapped Under Ice - Stay Cold 7"
100 Demons - Self Titled
Ceremony - Still Nothing Moves You
108 - Songs Of Separation
Lewd Acts - Black Eyed Blues
Converge - Jane Doe
Botch - We Are The Romans
Some Girls - Heaven's Pregnant Teens

Both of these bands figured heavily for me. I was never a huge consumer of hardcore across the board, but the bands I liked, I really liked.

Seeing this earlier today made my day. Awesome.

Back to metal, and to me what I think is TRUE "modern" metal, are these guys, Dying Fetus. To me, they span the whole spectrum of what a metal fan wants. Angry vocals, killers guitars, a bad ass drummer and the most important to me, brutal breakdowns/spinkick inspiring/fist throwing/foot stompin dance parts.

I was searching for a particular song when I came across this. Its almost 9 minutes of DF and its shot from the sickdrummer. com camera, so its all from the drumming angle. 2 of my most favorite songs.

give it like 30 seconds for the sound to come in

last one for tonight. These local boys have been going on almost 15 years now. I admit I put them on the back burner shortly after the started simply because of who they knew and who I knew, I really couldnt be bothered to get involved. This song was one of the few after their first cd that really stuck in my head.

I went to see both of their soldout shows at Starland about a year ago and am happy to report that they have matured considerably, so please disregard the wardrobe and antics in the video. The first night the covered Beyonce and the second night was Bon Jovi.

New Jerseys own, E-Town Concrete. Mandibles

OK, here's one of my Mt. Olympus bands, Neurosis.

I got into them a few albums into their career, but they have come to inhabit a place of the utmost esteem for me. Their artistic integrity and fierce independence are of the highest standard. Not to mention that the music is fucking heavy.

Between the buried and me. 5 words, 2 prepositions, possibly the best (metal) band in the world😀

-Jim.
Between the Buried and Me is awesome.
To avoid some of the newer lame metal that is coming out, I tend to opt for prog metal instead. You can't go wrong with bands like Meshuggah and Opeth. But prog newcomers like Between the Buried and Me and Dillinger Escape Plan are doing a pretty good job.

Dude I saw these guys back when they had their "fair well" shows at Starland about 2 years ago. Craziest show I've ever been to. Damn near a full blown riot, 32 cop cars outside afterwards!

Anyone catch this!!??
