For All You Hardtail Guys Out There...

There is ALWAYS someone much faster than you. And it usually has nothing to do with their bike.

someone said earlier: you need both. This I totally agree with. Depending on the rider and trail...a HT could be perfect or miserable. Same applies to FS. Having both allows you to choose the best bike for your destination and mood.

Once you realize people are too into what they are doing it becomes evident they want you to be into what they are doing as well... Thats the best I got and it aint much

Agreed. What happens is, people feel the need to justify what they ride because they need to prove they are smart and made the right decision. The problem with that is as others like Kirt have said... There is no one right bike, therefore no right decision. Whats the saying? "Run what you brung"

Agreed. As long as it is rigid, has 29" wheels and only has one gear. If you have that bike though, you are ok with the arguement for this thread.

I have that bike. 😀

But if I was buying a new bike tomorrow, I would strongly consider a 26 inch FS bike. A nice 5 inch travel, 25lb bike that could be raced or ridden in crazy tech places like sourlands, or even ridden at some trails at diablo.

Never had anyone tell me that FS was the thing for me. People usually say Hardtail is the way to go.

Both are good. Comfort versus efficiency/weight is the tradeoff. That and $$$

you absolutely need a full suspension when mountain biking just like you absolutely need a rigid hardtail for the road

the more you ride the more you get dialed in to what you prefer. so, if I went into a shop today and a guy told me I NEEDED a full suspension bike for the trails I ride I would laugh in his face.

funny thing is, on this site you'll probably find more people telling you DONT need suspension OR gears (than vice versa). ....that and big wheels.

I have tried 26, 29 HT ad FS...find what you like and ride it. At the end is not the bike that makes the difference.

I would love an FS bike but I can't say I NEED one. Riding with Woody last year at Blue he was hitting stuff on fully rigid bike that I wouldn't do even with FS.

That's another thing too, If someone where to hand me a nice FS, sure I'd take it. But I just could not justify spending that kind of money on something I do perfectly fine without.
