still wondering whether my road bike could fit cross tire.

I measured the clearance from rim to frame (back) and fork (front).

both measured a tad over 1 1/4 inch. could I squeeze cross tires?

not looking to race just ride it on the tow path.

whatdoyathink?

also, if they might fit, does anyone have an old pair of cx tires I could buy off of you for cheap or get for free? dont want to commit too much cash for this experiment?

I think the issue is not the tire fitting, but once you have any kind of slop built up in the tires you won't clear the brake caliper.

thanks Walter.

that's alright. as long as the tires will clear I'll ride it. I'll just avoid the mud.

just thinking winter time when the trails are crappy but the tow path is rideable. will get a better ride on my "cross bike". riding the tow path on a single-speed can be brutally boring.

Your better off getting a set of these. 28c gatorskin tires. The canal path is straight and flat you really dont need too much traction. Ive used these tires on rocky dirt roads and they are bomb-poof. Or even a better rating.. Tyler-proof

+2 for Tyler. He rode those this summer over some rugged washboard backroads, much worse than the canal, without a problem.

If I remember correctly it gets crappy just after griggstown. I havent been that far down there in a month or 2.

Nothing has changed south of Blackwells Mills Rd. No need for a CX tire though. I've ridden it recently with a 26c tire.
