Here is our Garmin data for the day:
http://connect.garmin.com/activity/51439395
So the Marriott in Trenton has no in room WiFi and their ethernet connection requires me to pay $13, BOOO!!! I typed this out in Mail in the bedroom and went downstairs to the lobby to upload when I finish.
Ok Day 2 is down! Today was mainly about riding through the left over pain from yesterday. My butt was not happy to be back in the saddle, my legs definitely felt fatigued earlier in the climbs and my upper back started to go numb around mile 40 something. They said the terrain would flatten out after the second rest stop, it didn't. It was definitely much more flat than yesterday, the hills were much smaller than yesterday and shorter for the most part but coupled with our fatigue from the previous day some of the hills felt like much more than they should have. There wasn't as much interesting things to see today although the Delaware river was rippin'. We paced a log floating down it at about 15 mph.
We started off from King of Prussia back on the Ben Franklin pkwy and back into Valley Forge. It was probably in the low fifties this morning, it felt freezing. For most of the first section we were pretty tightly bunched up (Yesterday had that nice climb at mile 6 to spread us out). A lot of the first section was shaded too so we were shivering for a good portion of it. The first rest stop felt like it took forever to get to compared to yesterday. Luckily the person with the all the Jelly packed in their car got here last night and we had more than just peanut butter sandwiches, score! At the stop 1 check in Lisa noticed Lenosky checked in like 45 minutes before us(Kevin's right, the dudes huge, like 6'4"). After we left the stop the sun was out more and things started to warm up, those arm warmers were clutch again today. Most of the second section was through back roads and some farm areas. We were told there was a nice climb leading up to the second rest stop. The moto guys kept telling us every climb was the last climb of the day as we got closer to the rest stop, we started ignoring them after the second climb. The climb "big" climb they mentioned wasn't to bad I think the worst part was after the climb we had to travel down a two lane highway around Lake Nockamixon. The road had huge rolling hills spaced out enough that it was hard to keep a good momentum between hills. We finally got to the second rest stop and hung out here for a bit and had lunch(More subway). We've been drinking these carbonated fruit drinks from Apple & Eve called Fizz Ed and they're really good!
Leaving the lunch rest stop we had another climb to do which led to a three mile decent! Eventually we made our way down to River Road (Rt. 32) around Frenchtown. We followed River Rd. down to New Hope. Part of our task today was to look for the high water marks painted on the rocks along the way. Apparently there are three, one from 1955 one from 94(?) and another from 2006. We blew by the first two marks but caught the '06 one. New Hope was PACKED! We ended up getting off the bike and walking on the sidewalk for the last couple yards. As Lisa mentioned we met up with our friend Mary and a bunch of other ladies from New Jersey( I've gotten used to everyone assuming since you're in a group riding for breast cancer you are automatically a lady when they cheer you on). My tripometer read about 71 miles when we left New Hope. We kept a good pace for the last leg of the ride through Washington Crossing and on to Yardley. I'm pretty sure we followed Rt. 32 on to Bridge St. and then went over the bridge into Trenton. A quick spin through town and over some cobblestone road and finished up at the Marriott near the capital building.
The ride finishes up in Mercer County Park tomorrow and there is going to be a BBQ for all of the riders, volunteers and workers. The course tomorrow is shorter, only about 55 miles. Since the terrain around here flat we should be cruising a bit quicker and hopefully we'll finish up around 2. I don't have the garmin info up but from what I remember it seemed we were pretty consistent with our lap times. We got quicker as the terrain leveled out but we did pretty good, a little slower but consistent.
Alright, I'm punchin' out. Goodnight.
